Until I'm proven wrong, Perfect Striker is the BEST football/soccer game ever made

I just keep coming back to this game. I've played Winning Eleven, Fifa, Virua Stiker, and the Super Side Kicks games. While many are very good, and even great, I still keep coming back to Perfect Striker and say "wow".

Just got done playing a very long and drawn out game of 0-0, something that almost never happens in games anymore. Ended in a shoot out, because it's J-League rules. I won, but barely.

Things I love:

Incredible play control
Good D, but still allows for runs to be made.
Hard to score
Control over the formations completely, but also adds in how the players feel that day. Pick from a ton of different formations, make your own, control who marks who, and pick how your defense works, along with on the fly plays to call.
Great PK system. just about EVERY game you just kick it and pray (and the same goes for when you're the goalie). In this you actually get a chance to see where it's going and you CAN make stops based on skill, and not luck.

Sure, the grahpics suck now, but even to this day, the animations are pure gold. I would take these animations in a game today and say "nice". In fact, I don't know if I can say the graphics "suck" as I find them to be pretty good for what they're worth.

And finally, the ball feels real. It doesn't feel like it's on a string like in FIFA. It really seems as if the ball is a ball that was just kicked. Nice physics.

Things that could be better:

a tiny bit of an arcade feel at times. Balls stick to players' feet more than I'd like, but this is a small complaint, as it's the feel that I enjoy.

needs a mem pack to save... damn.

That's it. The game is pure bliss. anyone know if Konami made anymore games that are just like this, but just new versions? International Super Star Soccer is the same game, but I liked the N64 JPN one better. I know ISSS came out for Xbox. Same game, or just the same name? Help, I love this game... tell me Konami made more, please.

Well, I just did a search, and it seems that Perfect Striker is still being made by Konami and Major A on the PS2. Damn it all to hell, why can't they come to the US?

Man, I'm this close to buying a JPN PS2 and Perfect Striker 5 from overseas now. Damn damn damn.

I always love when americans speaking about football
;)

I tell you what
I play football games from the real begin....maybe the first one I played was that one on Intellivision
I still consider Kick off on Amiga the funniest ever

and yeah
perfect striker on N64 is ONE of the best
sadly is the only one in the series worth mentioning
cause later on konami screwed it up with that game, or just put it aside cause winning eleven was more succesful
consider PS for PS2 could be compared to FIFA......go figure

the best IMO ??
winning eleven 5:final evolution
definetey the most challenging still

Your right Spike the Perfect Striker series has been continued in ISS, the firts next gen ISS is same on all 3 platforms, ISS2 is different on Xbox & GC (not played PS2 version), both of which are pretty good, tho i preferd the GC version , probably only because i owned it/got to get into it more...ISS3 ads a strange zoom for skill feature ands is also pretty good, though it lacks the control of the N64 originals.

I'm not gonna say Winning Eleven / Pro Evolution is a better seres, it is to me but its down to taste, theres enough people who rekon either is the greatest.

Just Konami + football = best IMO;)

I have always loved the virtua striker series. I could never get enough of it. But I also believe that Winning Eleven is leagues over Fifa.

My favorite and most-played soccer game was WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP SOCCER released by Sega in 1989 for the GENESIS system.

It was one of the launch titles and featured fast 2D overhead gameplay as well as some decent third person scenes for the corner and goal kicks. The soundtrack in particular brings me back to the earliest days of the Sega Genesis.

Intellivision Soccer beats all. Amazing gameplay, superior control, and the graphics, oh my Gawd!

history of ISS

You are a pimp, and so is that site talking about the games. I had no idea Perfect Striker had any more games than the first one on N64. By what was being said, it may or may not be as good as the first...

No matter, I'm going to EB today to buy an N64 mem card and start a new season on Perfect Striker. My god, what a game. Played it more this morn before work and it still wows me.

I loved FIFA 2002 for GameCube. Winning Eleven Seven is unbelievably dope though. Okay though the best one was World Cup Soccer on Sega Genesis. Overhead cam, players looked like they all had the Lloyd Christmas haircut from Dumb and Dumber. This game oozed coolness and tight control.

So Perfect Striker is the same as International Super Star that was released in the US for N64?

What about ISS98 (or whatever it was called)? The one that came out after ISS. I only have ISS and damn the game is hard.

It's hard but fair at times. I hear 98 has balance and tackle issues that aren't as good as the first. I played ISS, but I didn't care for it the same as I did for Perfect Striker. A very small, but different feel to it, IMHO. Best passing in a football game ever. You don't feel like you're helpless, but the ball acts like a ball at the same time. Same thing never happens twice.

*Appreciates the history lesson well written by the site, then pisses on its personal views;)

Meaning what? What didn't you like about the views of it? I think it's somewhat spot on, to be honest.

Started my season, I'm up two games and second in the league.
