I think the re-release has blue buttons instead of green, other than that, it is identical to last year's release (as far as we know).

Is it worth it? Of course that's a highly subjective question.

I bought an xbox just to play it last year simply b/c I know it is one-of-a-kind experience. And it did not fail to live up to that expectation. It is a mech-simulator.... simulating an experience that does not exist! You are basically thrown into a war zone controlling these huge mechs destroying everything.... You have an unprecedented amount of control over your mech, you will be multitasking, you HAVE to multitask to succeed.

It is intense, it is realistic (or supposed realism), it has excellent graphics, unbelievable sounds and superb control.

And it is hard, it will kick your ass over and over and you will come back for more if you like hard games.

But it is not for everyone, certainly not for someone looking for a quick pickup and play kind of game.

I can't wait for Lines of Contact so there is team play. Yes, I will get XBL just to play this game.

As Lastblade said, if you are into mechs and don't mind a sim game, then go for it. If you aren't a mech fan or aren't looking for a unique experience, then save your $200. It is both a mech sim and a unique experience.

To add to what others have already said, this is a game that will require a substantial investment of TIME to get the most out of it.

If you're mainly a pick-up-and-play type of gamer or get bored quickly, then Steel Battalion is NOT the game for you. Your first few hours will basically revolve around familarizing yourself with the controls. It will take time to get the hang of moving around and targeting effectively. Turn too fast, and your mech falls over.

This is nothing like MechAssault. It's a sim a the controller is often your worst enemy during the early goings. Persevere, and you're in for one hell of an experience.

Also, you better make sure you have the room to keep this thing set up..it takes up a lot of space once assembled and can be a pain to take apart when necessary.

What I did was set-up 2 snack trays next to eachother and put the controller on them and the pedals between them and it worked out pretty good and then I would just stored in in a large plastic container you find at Walmart. A pain to store but when playing I found this the best set-up. Anyone else with ideas?

And, oh YES, it is worth the $200.00. I never was into mech games until I played this one. Just awesome!!!!

Nothing more really to add here, that hasn't been said already. They did a really good job in simulating some possible realistic control of a mech. It's like learning to use a new vehicle, one that behaves like you would believe it would. Kind of like the comparison of going from a car, to operating big heavy machinery in RL. But with obvious differences.

The others explained pretty much exactly what conditions it is totally worth the money, with. I also am looking forward to line of contact. I have a feeling all the Steel Battalion Pioneers will be there.

Its absolutely, totally fucking amazing!
It's without a doubt the best peripheral/dumb add-on ever made for a home console. Forget smaba amigo's lousy marracca's!
It's soooo sweet when you first start to get to grips with learning to drive the tank!!
I spent ages just playing the first level and trying to shoot down the B52s.
Its just a must-have for any serious collector!
I'd keep my xb just for Steel Battalion!

I'm just fucked off that the new one is online only :(

I picked up the original release, but ended up returning it.

I really did like the game, it had a great immersive feel and the gameplay was truly unique. Unfortunately it was one of those games that I just knew I wasn't going to play after the frist 2 weeks though.

But, now with the re-release and Line of Contact coming out, I'm seriously considering picking up the game and renewing my Live subscription. The idea of playing this game with a squad of other people just sounds too good to be missed.

Is it really online only? I thought I read it was online CAPABLE, but I didn't see anywhere say it was online ONLY...

If it is online only... guess I won't be buying it. And here I thought my $200 investment would bare some more fruit. Oh well...

Oh, and do you realize the pic in your sig is fucked? Evidently that image doesn't exist any more.

it's 100% worth it. I would have paid 399 instead of 199
For the quality of the stick, which isn't exactly high (it isn't cheap either), that would be asking WAY too much. I will say that if it had some sort of force feedback to the sticks and some rumble or something, I would have paid $250 for it...

It is online only. :( I Know, I wish they add some more single player missions, but from what I gather, Lines of Contact is pretty involved in terms of multiplay (you can fight for territories and such, in addition to the regular death matches/team play, etc).

So I guess it is not so bad. Plus, the original single players missions are tough as shit anyway :)

Well, looks like I'm not buying. $50 for online only seems a bit steep to me. I don't use Live either, so it's DEFINITELY pointless for me to buy.

Hopefully Capcom will get off their asses and offer some more single player mission expansions for it, as I'd really like to put my controller to good use again.

Agreed. The quality of the stick is kind of a hit or miss affair. On one hand, the buttons and joysticks are fine, but it's the gearshift console that just feels so cheap and flimsy.

The footpedal portion is very well made.
