I just recieved a "supposed" Japanese copy of the special edition Akira DVD I bought on Ebay. First off, its not what I thought it was, as the seller described this as a "2 DVD boxset" which it isn't. Secondly, this looks like a bootleg, a really nice bootleg, but a bootleg nonetheless. Pics below:

I'm not familiar with how Japanese DVDs are packaged or distributed, but I don't think they slap website addresses all over the place. Plus, Taiwan suffix?

Let me guess... Region 0 ?

I'll go out on a limb here and say that it's a bootleg. (it is a bit obvious)

How much did it cost you? If you only spent $15 or so you really should have known better

Any extra features at least :)

Goddamnit.

I should've known better probably, but the seller's feedback has no negatives (less than 1% total) that say anything about selling bootlegs.

Not to mention I sent the seller a question to CONFIRM that this item was what I thought it was. No mention of 0 Region encoding(which it is), and the statement of it being a boxed set DVD (which it isn't).

Fucking shit, at least it was cheap.

In that case, where can I get the LEGIT copy of this DVD?

That DVD set makes J. Lo look like an ironing board my friend.

Is the special edition Akira no longer available in the US?

You got teh b00+!

I’ve purchased Hong Kong/bootleg DVDs before and this reeks of their design.

1) Discs without unique artwork (only reversed).
2) Plastic encrusted “book format” case.
3) Obnoxiously large and hideously rendered logo whoring every square inch of the outer sleeve.

That and I don’t think the Japanese refer to their films as “cartoons.”

Should look like this...

I could be wrong, but evidence points to the contrary...

Thats the EXACT image I linked to the seller to ask about. They said the artwork as slightly different but it was the same item. Fucking liar.

Where I can get THAT version?

Thanks, although I'm sure I'd probably fuck up or something, given that I can't understand ANY of that.

Should I even bother trying to get a refund from this chump?

Just put it in your cart (it's just like Amazon in the US).

OR do the next best thing and contact Dash no Chris . I'm sure he can get it for you. Use the link and go to his site (Hoteiya Las Vegas) or shoot him a PM. He's come through a shitload of times for me already.

Here is a good link to a bootleg awareness site. You DEFINITELY got a bootleg, considering the "company" it was from.

The reason his feedback is so high is that either people aren't smart enough to realize they've gotten bootlegs or the people who ARE buying from him don't care. OR they think they are getting these great deals on extremely expensive R2 DVDs when in fact they are over paying for a disc that costs $1 to press.

I fucking HATE bootleggers and bootlef Power Sellers on eBay are the worst, as eBay won't do a fucking thing about them... EVER,
