4 slot - black lines on screen

A mate of mine has a Neo Geo 4 slot that has black horizontal lines/bars going across the display. In between the lines the display (text, graphics, whatever) is just fine.

The lines are evenly spaced, about half an inch thick and half an inch apart.

Anyone ever come across this before please, and if so what was the cause of the fault?

The system doesn't indicate any errors on boot-up.

dirty/defective slots or scratched traces on the back of the board. also possibly bad contact between the 2 boards.

Thanks Arakon. So not likely to be a hard to replace/find dodgy chip then?

it could also be the video chip or some ram, but I'd check the above first.. otherwise the board would probably error out.

Just out of interest, IF it was the video chip, would it also give an error?

Also, is the video chip a surface mounted device?
