Anyway, some of the coolest people I've met, I've met from these forums, so I've decided to ask here. My band is garage rocky, only three person, male bassist/vocals/keyboard, male lead guitar/vocals/turntable+mixer, female drums. We're garage rock with some other influences, kind of like the White Stripes, the Vines, except with quite a bit of our creativity embedded. I really don't like to compare us with anyone. Anyway. We narrowed down some band names we like the most, but we'd like to hear what the general consensus thinks.

my band has to decide on a final name and soon, here are our last choices:
chain driver
fragments of
dieback
crescendo
paradigm arrest
cross crippled
nonbringer
knostyle

post your favorite here PLEASE

A band name should have a meaning to you. Nothing I say can influence you more than your own thoughts. My only advice is to keep the name "appropriate" enough so that you will even ever have a chance to get signed if that is what you are going for. I've seen great bands that have been completely looked over for their offensive names.

Out of your list, I think "The Fragments" would be best.
Yeah.... -of

Chain Drive sounds good.

What about... Mad Gear? Hahaha

I have a pseudo-band with no name as well, terrible thing.

All of those names are possible names that we'd use, like I said, we just want the general opinion on it to better help us decide. Chain Driver = K's move....that one was my idea, lol. Anyway, we need to make a decision soon, we have a show March 12th, and the 13th.

If I were making a band, I'd call it Demolish Fist and say I thought up the name in 1994.

Then how'd bands like, Crucifucks, and Circle Jerks get signed?

Of your list, Fragments is the best, but the rest are absolutely terrible and don't fit the Vines or White Stripes sound and feel. They all sound like death-metal or sad, withered, alternative rock bands like Disturbed.

Names you should use instead: St. Helena, Cochlogena, Curiouser Three, General Beatson's Angry Spleen Brigade, Horn of Water, The Dusky Skins, Chaulky Brown, 746 Westerton, The English, The Welsh, Deepest Valleys, Sir Doverton's Arsenal or South Coast.

Enjoy!

Fragments sounds fine, but it better should really have signification to you.

Did you come up with all of those yourself? The way it is around here, those sound like punk bands. Like, the kind full of 14 and 15 year olds which rich mommies and daddies that like to buy them the most expensive instruments so even if they sound bad, it's still not so horrible.

Sorry, I have a personal grudge. Lol. I like Curiouser Three, and 746 Westerton. Cept...The Dusky Skins and Chaulky Brown sound like black jazz bands. St. Helena is taken, and we're no where near the South Coast...actually, we're right in the middle. Thanks xmillion for the suggestions so far though.

In the way of the name having meaning to us, we've been a band for a little while and have 9 original songs we practice a lot, and...the songs reflect us, we just need a clever name for now. Oh, for any White Stripes fans, we do ONE cover song...Screwdriver.

The Crucifucks suck, and the circle Jerks are on a shitty label. Oh yeah, knowone knew what a Circle Jerk was back in the day. But then again, you wouldn't know what back in the day was, seeing as how you're 14.

(no offense to being 14, but understand that it definitely applies to the situation)

I was listing whatever names that popped into my head at random as a joke to inspire more thought, so please don't think I seriously want you to name yourself one of those ridiculous names. And St. Helena is taken?! That's pretty funny.

Anyhoo, I still stand by Fragments as my pick from your list. If your band is good, the name won't matter (if you get picked up by a label, they will sometimes make you change it anyway for legal reasons), and for the record, I was in a band called Gerry's Kids (punk/ska band) and if I started a band today I would call it Freethought.

"fragments of"

All lower case. Don't pick a name with the word "The" in it. (THE vines, THE hives, THE crapolas) Be individual, not conformist. Play music that expresses YOU, not the fad of the moment.

The whole 'the' band thing is going to die soon, I hope. Do you guys have anything recorded? if you say Garage rock, thats cool, but don't compare yourself to all of the 'the' bands. yeesh thats crappeh stuff.

Just some ideas/names of my own directed your way. I was going to be in a band once, and we had to decide on some names ourselves, but it never panned out... of course our shit was Militant Social Commentary meets Punk with elements of classical music. Anyhow here they are.

Fist Job
Detritus Overmind
(My personal favorite)
Death Bringer
Negative Zero
Second To None
Sturmgewehr XXX
Fusionnaire
F-ISM
(Fuel Injected Suicide Machine) *See movie MAD MAX for refrerence.

...anyhow just some ideas.

what about names for my blues band? we've got two incredible guitarists, the best drummer i've heard in my life, and me on harmonicas/vocals. you guys seem to be quick with the names, so what would you call a blues band from austin texas that is starting to get gigs all over town, and starting to make a name for itself?

"fragments of" is the best you go there I think. Although being a in a band myself I wouldn't have any of those names, but that's not what you asked for. Good luck with that..

You guys are so damn cool, coming up with all of these names. Thanks. Keep the ideas coming. Yeah, I guess can I put the names of the songs down for ya guys to better some ideas.

Walk the Plank
The Lobby
Captive
Dead to be
Oregon Trail
Wasp Woman
Unture
Outtamyway
TaeKwonDo!(it's a paraody of a chant i heard some little tae kwon do kids screaming during a tae kwon class i happened to pass, btw im a grappler(judo, aikijitsu, etc.) lol
Screwdriver
System Failure

Yeah, we have a few more in the works. System Failure may or may not be a song still. We have little electronica sounding interludes between songs that don't mean much, they're like a minute long. Curtis scratches while I play with some mean effects on the bass and the drummer does a nice breakbeat. You guys = badass for the ideas.

Hey, im just wondering, but have you heard of the band "The Jolly Garogers" from Austin? They are a pirate rock band. All in their 40s or so, and they dress like Pirates. AWESOME band, awesome live show. www.jollygarogers.com is their website.

I gotta say I like it, but I know everyone would think it to be a Matrix reference, not an SNK ref.

Thought the same thing... if you see it as a Matrix reference (and most people WILL do), it sounds stupid.
