I believe that is the... wonderful... movie.

The only Anime based on SS is the movie and the 64 OVAs I believe. And it says "TV," and I'm pretty sure the movie aired on TV. The 72 minute thing is throwing me off though...

The picture on the front looks like it's from the movie as well. I'm 99.99% positive that's the movie in Japanese.

at first i thought it might be based on the recent nakoruru game, but haohmaru wasn't in that.

i've seen japanese dvds group movie time + extras time into the overall time, maybe that's why it's so long.

Here is a better version of the front cover:

Definitely the movie, so grouping the extras and whatever with the main feature sounds about right. I think the show was actually an "hour" when shown on TV, so it would come out to around 47-50 minutes for the main feature.

I wouldn't count on it. ADV released it on DVD and I think their excuse was that it wasn't all that popular (even in the Japanese language it wasn't that good) so they didn't go out of their way for it. It's also a dirt cheap DVD. If I understand it correctly, they NEVER had the rights to the Japanese track, so even if they redid the DVD it would still be English only.

Bastards. It wasn't a good show, but the EXTREMELY crappy dub (Tiffany Grant, of Asuka from EVA fame with a cheesed up French accent had to have been the worst, besides them turning Amakusa into a woman...) makes not so good movie into an absolute turd. If you've ever seen the US version, you have my sympathy.

Did anyone else who ever lived in Japan click on this and find it somewhat bizarre that the first voice actor listed is Shingo from SMAP?

Speaking of him... I believe he has a leading role in upcoming Japanese taiga drama "Shinsengumi".

Definitely. How they can pass off a man named SHIRO as a woman is beyond me. That's like trying to pass off an American man as a woman with the name Samson.

One can't get much more male-specific for a japanese name.

Wow, you're right!

I wonder if it's the same Shingo though...

Anyway, I gotta show the wife this.

Search Google Japan for "Katori Shingo" and "Samurai Spirits" - it's definitely the same Shingo. I find that really weird. I just can't imagine how the same person could be a voice actor in this movie and also be the star of such elevated sketches like "Shingo Mama."
