Can Anyone Give Me Cell Phone Reccomendations? Please, I Don't Have Much of a Clue.

I live in Bronx, but spend a lot of time in Manhattan. I don't know if service could be much different between the two.

Right now I have AT&T wireless, not the GSM? one. All i know is that my service is horrible and i would have gotten rid of it a long long time ago if I weren't on contract. The contract ends soon and, i'm definately going to get something else.

I've heard that T-Mobile is a good service in New York City and the nearby area. Does anyone know if this is true? How does it hold up against other carriers?

I've had a couple phones over the last 2 years and this time i think i'm going to get a better one. I've been looking at the
Siemens SL55 and was wondering if anyone knows anything about it? Are there any other good phones people can reccommend. I want something small and light, like the one above or a flip phone. Small and light is the key thing.

I could really use any help here.

I have Cingular right now (Philly/Boston) and I have no problems with it. Other friends of mine have T-Mobile and haven't anything bad about them.

I would avoid Sprint PCS and Virgin Mobile, I haven't heard a single positive thing about them.

Get an N-Gage. Seriously they are pretty cool. True 3D, pretty small... nice hi-res screen. Only drawback is that you have to remove the battery to put in a game. Kind of a drag.

I've been on At&T GSM for a few weeks and I couldn't be happier.

T-Mobile is very good in NYC, Philly, Boston, etc. But outside any large East Coast city, there's a definite drop in quality. Good plans, though.

Considering I work for Cingular I would pimp them out but in NYC they suck, I would say go with Verizon considering they are based out of NYC and generally wireless carriers are best in their home area

The companies I recomend are sprint and verizon.

the best thing to do is get a cheap phone off ebay and have it hooked up afterward. you do not sign onto a contract. just pay as you go (monthly) and if you do not like the service provider you drop them and go with someone else.

As much as I hate to admit it Verizon has by far the best coverage. ATT Wireless and T-Mobile are both completely useless when it comes to getting a signal. Sprint and Cingular are both improving but still not close to Verizon's coverage.

Of course, Verizon is the most expensive, but you know what they say: you get what you pay for.

Also as far as AT&T goes, their coverage will sure get better when Cingular buys them on the 13th

Sorry to bring up an old thread like this.

I'm getting really close to the end of my contract with AT&T, I thought it was earlier but everytime my mom or I speak to them they give us a different story. Either way they're gone really soon. My mom got t-mobile like a month ago and it's been amazing, haven't one dropped call, crystal clear, no waiting for it to dial, the phone always received the calls, and all the messages show up. So i'll definately be getting it.

I'm curious about phones though. I hear mixed things about all phones but i'd just like to know what people recommend. The main thing for me is something small and light, but is still clear. I've been eying the Siemens sl55, does anyone know about it. The nokia 7200 also looks really good and got some really good reviews and user comments. I want to buy an unlocked phone so I dont have to deal with the contracts, so if I dont like it I can switch services and keep the same phone. Does anyone know good places online to buy phones? I'm a little weary of buying a phone off of ebay.

Several friends of mine have said that phones come out in Europe and Asia before the US and that they're cheaper over there is this true? I have a couple friends going to both Asia and Europe this summer? Is their selection better over there, and can you get phones for a better price(like the same phone as in the US but for less)?. Basically I just want to know since i could have them pick one up for me.

Not only that but they(Verizon), have the largest amount of cell towers up and thus the largest amount of coverage. I'm in Denver but i get connection most everyplace out here.

Nah, I'm 100% sure i'm getting T-Mobile, my question is basically about the other questions i had about phones.

Honestly Cingular now has the best overall coverage and the largest footprint, and that is before the AT&T merger.

The CDMA network that Verizion has is far more stable when compared to GSM but is hindered by bottlenecks as far as data goes.

Cingular has better coverage in New Orleans than Verizon but that doesn't mean Verizion doesn't beat them somewhere else.
