Its been along time since I've played Grafx 16, way back in the day my friend had one, and I remember having so much fun. Well now its much more affordable, so what should I be looking for system and game wise?

I expect a reply from D-Lite

I owned one twice.

The first time was when it was initially released here in the US (saved up allowance money and got it when it was reduced in price, during a free game special).

Returned it after a couple of months.

Then I bought it again 5 years ago for 20 dollars. Came with Bonk, Legendary Axe, Slaughter House, and some other games I can't remember.

Then my ex-girlfriend took it with her (that bitch) when we broke up. I had a few of the games, up until a couple of years ago when I sold them on eBay (got back like 60 bucks), but the true charm was Lords of Thunder.

I played it at a friends house, and if the CD add-on wasn't so expensive for me when I was younger, I would have bought it.

I own a TG-16 and a TurboExpress (portable system plays Hu-Cards from the TG-16). It is very handy.

I love Blazing Lasers, and Galaga '90. Most people hate this game - Keith Courage in Alpha Zones, but its not as bad as most people say it is. Bloody Wolf is cool, of course Bonk's Adventure is pretty nice, I hated Bonk's Revenge, but Bonk's Big Adventure (third in the series) is much better than Bonk's Revenge, but still falls short of Bonk's Adventure. Cadash is excellent, and if you can get a converter to play Japanese games, SF 2: Champion Edition is available. Also if you have the chance get the TurboDuo CD unit so you can play Dracula X. I hear it is the pinnacle of TG-16 gaming goodness.

Thanks for the help folks.

Personally I dig Keith Courage, but that was back in the day of course.

Hopefully I'll get into TG gaming in a month or so.

Okay, so my next question, what's the deal with hardware and imports?

I know HuCards need convertors, but do CDs need boot discs?

Also, is there a converter to go from say JPN to US if I get a PC Engine (JPN TG16/Duo)?

Keith Courage certainly isn't horrible, but look what it was competing with at the time for pack in games...Altered Beast! Makes Keith Courage look pretty weak, thats why it has the reputation it does.

If you get a Turbo with some save feature, either a DUO, or a deck with a TurboBooster Plus...Get Gunboat! It's like playing Apocalypse Now, you have this little PBR with a 50 cal, grenade launcher, and front machine guns in Vietnam! Just like the movie. But its very long and you need a Turbo with save feature.

I also like:
-Chase HQ
-Klax
-Devil's Crush
-Sidearms
-Sinistron
-Ninja Spirit...this is the best ninja game ever! blows the socks off of Ninja Gaiden or Legend of Kage, and even Shinobi. This has some of the best music I've heard on the machine and some smooth ass gameplay. It's very hard too, I've not beaten this.

I'm waiting for D-Lite to answer too. He got me on a good deal for a PCE Duo. Since I think he said he was going to mod it (hopefully that means make the Hucard drive play both Japanese and American Hucards so I can sell and be rid of my basic Turbografx 16 system to help keep the flow of games coming in if I get the Duo). What's on my hit list:

>First of all, I want these US Hucards badly. Ninja Spirit, Bloody Wolf, China warrior, Jackie Chan's Action Kung Fu

>Then my list in case I do get the system, I'ma be hunting these down:
-Martial Champions (anyone remember this old school Konami fighting game from the early 1990's?)
-Youkai Douchuuki
-Son Son II
-Salamander
-Gradius II
-Riot Zone
-Forgotten Worlds
-Snatcher
-Chuka Taisen (Cloud Master)
-Ninja Gaiden
-Ninja Warriors
-Gradius
-Salamander
-Kikikaikai (Pocky and Rocky)

The conveeter to play usa on jap machines is quite the rarity, though converters and mods to play jap on usa machines are readily available....

any cd game is universally compatible, sans variables.

The only problems are Altered Beast CD, which ONLY works with the ORIGINAL system card, no great loss.

Hmm, okay. Cause I got a lead on a potentail PC Engine Duo from a buddy. I wish things could be region free like the NEO GEO :)

Are JPN HuCard imports hard to come by?

I ended up buying modded SuperGrafx that plays US Hucards, JPN Hucards, and JPN SuperGrafx HuCards. I just need to get a SuperCD Rom2 unit and I am all set.

Oh yeah, I noticed in japan, there are different variations of Duo, such as "Duo-R".

What's the difference, it's got all the formats (i.e. System 1 to play Jyuohki/Altered Beast, or System 3 to play Konami's later Super CD's) built so you don't have to upgrade or a Duo with Supergrafx support?

All DUOS play system card 3.0 standard games, except Altered Beast which only works with the original system card.

DUOS are same as is as excpet maybe the odd headphone socket or packaged six button pad.
