Yeah, every tom dick and harry talks about roms here now. Hell, I even have the 2k3 rom, and thanks to it, I'm not spending a god damn dime on the MVS cart that just came out.

Sadly, roms are like masturbating. Everyone's doing it, but most are ashamed to admit it. I wish we would stop talking about them as much, as this is a site for those that really love/collect Neo Geo. Not to play them in perverted "rental" forms.

I use roms as rentals, and nothing more.

Its SELECTIVELY anti-roms.

From a personal standpoint, its much like Spike said, I use them as "rentals".

I can honestly say that I have never ever dled a rom in my life. I was wondering about this too, as there is rom talk everywhere these days. I really want to play KOF2k3 so I can talk about it in the KOF forum, but I can't. Seems that everyone else has the rom and is playing it, so they can talk with each other about the game. I feel so left out I don't even know how to use emulators, much less get roms and all the other stuff that goes with it...I just want to play KOF 2k3

Anyone how doesn't know how to use emulators / roms really needs to learn how to use thier computer. Its not hard at all. Do some reading

I'd like an opinion from Jorge about this

at least downloading r0mz you aren't giving money to someone who profits off of illegal bootlegs.

It's certainly a bit curious of late, particularly on what should be IMO the most anti-Neo Geo ROM site on the internet (well at least considering the fact that there's a store attached). It's kind of hard to take the moral high ground when no one else here (aside from too_short) seems to give a damn whether or not ROMs are downloaded or bootlegs are being sold.

For the record, yes I have roms myself, including KoF 2003, which is basically the ONLY way for me to try a game before I buy as there is no arcade nearby that has it. For me, if it wasn't for roms I never would have bought a Neo Geo in the first place, and I've bought several new releases solely because I got a chance to play them first via roms.

Part of it lately is people like me who are completely frustrated with Playmore's inability to use common sense.

Take SvC: I played the game at Otakon last August and decided I was interested in the game, so I decided to preorder the homecart since no true MVS release was scheduled. So it was supposed to come out in October, then November. Around that time I learned that there was indeed a true MVS version coming out, so I decided to change my preorder to MVS. And again, Playmore started pushing the release back further and further with no confirmation whether or not the game was coming out. Then finally they decide to cancel the damn thing, without giving us any kind of reason or idea that they would cancel it. So fine, I switch my order back to the homecart. Well the homecart I got several days ago had the sound all screwed up, so now I have to send it back and get it replaced. So I end up paying $300+ AND still have to deal with this crap. I realize none of this was Shawn's fault, and I'm certainly not blaming him or Trieu for any of this, however the fact of the matter is while others have been playing it for months (most of which are now tired of the game) I've been waiting, and now I probably won't be able to find any competition to play against when/if this whole thing ever gets resolved.

I know that downloading roms is not right even for "testing" purposes, but between issues like SvC and the fact that no one else here cares maybe I shouldn't give a damn either.

im mostly pointing to the flood of modded xbox threads which go further than just gettin a few mame roms.

i never tried to hide it, i got roms, i have em for every new release. i know im not going to buy them anyway (except kof2k3, that is definately on my list. but i havent bought a neo game since the ms3 re-release, and i havent bought a game in general since viewtiful joe...i need a job) and if i saw em in an arcade, youre damn right i'd play.

Playing/having roms doesn't mean you can't have originals.

I still buy Neo Geo games every now and then, I still have some Master System and Neo Geo roms. I barely touch them though.

Nothing beats the original.

I think as long as your a long standing member, people don't give a shit if you use Roms or not. But if you are a newbie and dare say "I play neo-geo roms" then you are screwed and cast away to the island. That's just how it is, I guess.

This place WAS anti-ROMs, but that appears to be past-tense. These days, other than a cooler admin/mod team, the actual difference between ng.com and oro.com is smaller than it ever was...

I'm not pointing fingers, nor am I chastising anyone here. But it seems like ever since SNKP has pulled their recent crap with lame releases (pushed back, not happening at all) people have been more open about the usage of roms, not to mention bootlegs. Basically it's "well they pissed me off so I'm gonna go do this." That's just what I've noticed going down recently. When I started posting here last year there were nearly no r0Mz threads to be found. Now someone posts about them, gets a couple of flames, and a dozen posts backing them up.
