Picked it up this evening at Best Buy. After much hand wringing and countless searches through HDTV forums I finally settled on the Sony KV-36HS510 36" HDTV.
I was this close to getting the $200 cheaper Toshiba 36hf73. It had all the features I wanted, and some of the menues and options are more user friendly than the Sony. But after about a half hour of side by side comparisons it seemed pretty obvious to me that the Sony had the advantage in picture quality.
So my brother helped me lug that 230 pound monster home. Unfortuanately I have't been able to use it yet. My tv stand is a bit under size and under strength. I cant get a new TV stand right now, and I really like this one anyway. So im doing a little wood working project. I bought a 3/4" piece of high quality oak plywood and cut it down to make a new top for my TV stand. Im also reinforceing the sides with two 12X1" boards on the side, and a 2x4 in the back center. I stained all the pieces and after work im going to put it together. I know it sounds wierd, but its actually going to look pretty nice, and it will be solid as all hell. Then I will FINALLY be able to watch the dang thing.
To bad I wont be getting that progressive scan DVD player till next month.
