OK, I played around with the PS1 emu for a little bit... the games look GORGEOUS, but I notice a slight slowdown when loading battles, etc that isn't present when playing them on my PS1 or PS2. I'm using ePSXe...

So, if nobody has a solution to that problem... I was looking to pick these titles up on PC (oy... as if I need multiple copies of the same game). How were they? System requirements aren't a problem, I just don't want to pick up buggy ports or, worse yet, ports that don't look any nicer than the originals.

FFVII was a great PC port. Not only does the game look nice and aliased, the loads are faster. If you have a good PSX clone PC pad you will have a great time with it.

FFVIII on the other hand, was a rushed hackjob port. Nothing was enhanced for the PC, and it shows. The graphics look horrible and lack a high-res mode. I would only get it for completeness otherwise, it was very disappointing.

8 was actually quite nice on pc. it added the choco minigame that only came out on pocketstation, which gives you inf items via a cheat and 3 new summons and rare items.

99 x holy wars, anyone? :emb:

FFVIII on PC looked even UGLIER than the PlayStation version. For a PlayStation game, it looked damn good. But go and put it on a computer... you'll be begging for a PS version of it.

play FF7 PC + Trainer and turn Cloud into Sephiroth & turn Barrett into a Chocobo, that'll make the game more interesting if you've beaten the game already + it gets rid of those 2 lameasses....

Who wants to play 8 anyway? :make_fac:

8 is where it's at. :D

Good to know that the port is trash, though. I want that hi-res look... but I just can't get the emulator to run perfectly...

try using a different driver, i'm using pete's d3d drievr 1.63 and never had a problem with any particular title.

FFVII, on top of being a crappy game, is also a buggy as shit PC port. I can remember people fighting to get this turd to work right. Most of the problems revolved around the Yamaha sound system they were using. It's 3D support was lacking as well, though with a 3DFX card it worked well. I remember friends of mine having ATI cards and never getting the game to run properly and returning it to EB for a refund.

Have you tried FF7? I've set mine up (tried a few different drivers) and chose to run at a constant 60 fps... there's always a little slowdown as the battle loads (tried both my disc and ripping it to the hard drive), and there's always a little as the battle ends...

I haven't used the d3d driver - it said the opengl ones were better for Geforece cards. Couldn't hurt to give it a whirl.

Minor, but annoying.

Well I think FF7 on PC did decent. If you are playing them via emulation then you would probably be fine with the PC version of FF7. The fact that I couldn't play the game in full screen without having pixelated ass backgrounds and FMV drove me insane however. The battles looked smooth and quite pretty though as they are fully 3D. The sound isn't exactly up to par quality wise, but was exceptable.

FF8 I played a little bit, the lack of enhancements was pretty sad. It was kind of like a poorly done PSX port. Reminded me of playing Megaman Legends on N64. They made 0 improvements or optimizations for the N64 version and thus it was pretty shitty.

I wouldn't bother with either honestly, let alone emulation. I'd just play them on my PS2 and deal with low resolution battle seqeunces rather then tiny screens or shitty pre-rendered stuff.

A long time since I've played it but FF8 looked better on the PC provided you have the 3D capabilities.

The Choco World mini game is playable at any time without the need of that blasted pocketstation.

EditI was referring to PC version of FF8.

I think I have FF 7 for PC somewhere... anyway I never finished the game but I thought the game was very top notch.

Why did I not finish it? I simply have no more love for RPG's anymore :crying:

Yeah... it's getting to that point. Sure would save me a lot of time, too. :tickled: The main reason I wanted to emulate it was for a "fast forward" feature. I quickly found out it doesn't really exist (although it'd be easy to implement), but when I saw how nice it looked on the emu (even the prerendered stuff in full-screen)...
