Well, I guess for less hassle, get a modchip, as you can just pop in the game and play. But if you want it cheap, or, basically free.. you can download the Utopia BootCD off the net anywhere for free, and you have a boot disc. Works with imports perfectly.

If you can't or don't want to do the mod, use the Game Shark Lite disc. It can be downloaded and burned in minutes, supports pretty much all import games, and also supports VGA (if that matters to you).

DC-X hands down. Utopia is good, but won't work with certain imports (like Super Turbo for some fucked reason).

Before that though I used the Gameshark and had no problems on any of the imports I played.

I use the DC Codebreaker, it works perfectly fine for me, plays all imports I've put in it so far.

Utopia sucks, theres alot of games that dont work with it, dc x and codebreaker are the best discs, personally id go with a mod, and they should be fairly cheap now.

A friend of mine is downloading Utopia for me. Does anyone know if there is any problem playing Rez with it? I'm not sure which version it is.

It depends on the game you are playing. Sakura Wars won't work properly with Utopia, though it will work with a Game Shark. Fighting Vipers 2 won't work with a Game Shark CD, but will with Utopia. Some games work on both.

If you want guaranteed compatibility, go for a mod chip or a DC from the region you are trying to play a game from.

I got tired of swapping CDs all the time to play my imports, so I bought a Japanese DC off of another member for a good deal. I couldn't have been happier.

I've got DC-X, but I think I'll eventually try and mod, since I was able to score a spare DC.

Actually, in my above post, I could have been happier... I could have actually gotten a working unit. Hoping a repair isn't too costly...

i have Fighting Vipers 2 and use the Gameshark CDX to boot it up with. works perfect.

i use the GS CDX on all of my DC imports and i've had NO problems (and i have roughly 75 imports for DC).

utopia has never failed me, my american DC broke about 2 years ago and i never got around to buying one to swap the GDRom out of, so i play everyone on my japan dc and use a utopia for the american games. AFAIK the windows ce games like sega rally 2 won't work with any bootdisc.

japanese dc's are pretty cheap now, probably less or the same as a mod install would be with return shipping.

That's interesting, considering I do have the last Gameshark version they made. 3 point something or other I think it was.

With FV2 it would start the game, I could sometimes get through the menus but i could never start a game. It would go to load and just sit there, frozen.

I have a Japanese DC now (though it needs a lense, so this doesn't affect me anymore... or won't once I get it fixed)
