Sorry not on those consoles, but Download on PC Engine has my favourite shooter soundtrack, in my top 5 ST's of all time;)

Other than that, Darius Gaiden on Saturn most definately

I hear Zed Blade on the NG has a great techno ST (too bad the gameplay is subpar).

And Parodius Da! on JAMMA is great. On the SFC version, one of the special SFC-only stages has "Mayyim Mayyim" (AKA "U'shavtem Mayyim") (A Jewish Song) as BGM. Too bad the sound is weaker on the SFC version than the JAMMA board. Still one of my all-time fave STs.

God I'd love to own that JAMMA PCB...

>MUSHA

>Crisis Force (NES/Famicom) - another kick ass Konami shooter that went unknown to the rest of the world until emulation came out. The final boss music will make your blood rush!

Thunder Spirits - SNES - Has anyone heard of it? It's a kinda obscure side-scroller. Crappy graphics, even for the early SNES games, but it has great music. Each stage and boss has their own distinct theme. I would love to find the OST for it

Although, it's already been mentioned, Darius Gaiden has some great sounds. The really nice thing bout it is, the music tracks are red book audio so you can buy the game and burn the tracks with no problem. I regret not picking up a second copy to act as a music CD, back when it was in the bargin bin at Toys R' Us.

Thunder Spirits is actually the Thunderforce III on SNES.
Graphics are crappy............I'm very sure ;)
Original (Genny/Mega Drive) is always better :)
