Well I own a Compaq Presario with some nice features, but I didn't have a lot of money to work with when I bought it. If I had more funds at the time, I probably would have gone with a Vaio. The Toshiba's are nice too. Ahh well, there's always next year.

I voted Vaio by the way.

Oh yeah... Dells are reliable.... hehe  wait, you were being serious? As for me, favorite PC, IBM Stinkpads... Favorite POSIX... yeah... you guessed it... Apple... not sure what is gay about an aluminum or white case, but I guess it makes me gay... it's fine, I still won't sleep with you.

Yeah, Dell's notebook quality has been pretty bad, actually.

They don't even manufacture their own notebooks.

I may have spoke to quickly... PM me with photo and I will consider :D

I am a big person of "use what works." My idea of Dell is a bit jaded since my company deals only with Dell (well, until this year where they finally switched to IBM). We had all sorts of problems, but yeah, we have thousands of dells right? My big complaint with Dell is their Hard Drives, they use the worst HDs in those things. Luckily, this isn't an expensive or difficult thing to fix... so, if that is all I can complain about then yeah. We've had a lot of HDs go in the Dell computers though... And fans... their fans die a lot too! hehe... And get real noisy.

As for other components, well these old Dells are still kicking. They have new HDs in them, some have new fans... some no fan... hehe...

Sure, but that is a modified one first of all... with the yellow. And after that it is about 5+ revisions back, when the original iMac came out. Apple's powerbooks have always been black, those were the "fun" cheap models. They haven't been in colors or clamshells for about 4 years though,

Toshiba has some of the best ones if you look for durability and features = the Tecra line is unsurpassed (and always comes with 3 year warranty worldwide).

For mid range I'd say Tosh / IBM / Dell are good and HP /Compaq seems to be getting their stuff together recently.

Acer is also a good brand but seem to suffer from bad warranty. However for having used a Acer Ferrari 3000 I can say that the little beast is definitely worth its price, if you need a laptop now its my Best Buy for spring 2004 (and comes with a Red Ferrari mouse, wi-fi, blurtooth, 128MO ATI card, 2.5ghz mobile, DVD-R...) :

I wound up picking Apple and "other." The "other" was Tadpole, who makes SPARC-based laptops. I may never get one, but their SPARCLE looks pretty good, having up to 2 GB of RAM, 3 USB 2.0 ports, serial and parallel ports, 1400 * 1050 resolution (@_@), built-in 802.11b, and two PS/2 ports (mouse/keyboard, I believe).

Voted Dell. That's what we use at work and being the tech support guy and being able to order warranty parts without speaking to anyone has major benefits in my book

Used to work with Toshibas when I was at a previous job. The screens were always crappy and had a pretty high DOA rate. Not sure about now though.

IBM ThinkPad is the only choice.

Best keyboard, great screens, reliable, and they don't look gay.

No doubt about it, Apple wins this one.
I currently proudly own an iBook G4 1Ghz 14.1" 256Mb DDRRAM 60GB HDD, ATi Radeon Mobility 9200. And on top of that, it's just pretty. I love it.

But then again, Apple has always been a brand that targets more to the designers out there... Although their dream would be to have an overall success in the market and run over PCs. But that won't happen.

Sony Vaio Here. I own 2 of them. Second choice would be the Apple Notebooks.

What no Alienware notebook? I would go with an Alienware laptop anyday over the list.

Well... I just had a ton of laptops and I would have to say my favorites were the Toshiba and the IBM. The IBM systems are built like tanks and they have some cool features like a keyboard light and scroll button. The HP and Compaq systems look a bit flash but the hardware in them blow. And the tech support sucks even more.

Right now I have:
Toshiba tablet PC
IBM R40
HP Pavilion ze5400
Compaq Presario... forgot the number

the HP needs to be sent in and the Compaq is being repaired right now. Go IBM, Sony or Toshiba!
