Arika announced a PS2 port of Cave's arcade shooter Espgaluda, the PS2 version will have 4 game modes: Arcade Mode, Original Mode, Replay Function and Simulation Mode.

What's with the shooter rennaisance as of late? I'm not complaining, just wondering where all this is coming from. I just hope it lasts.

My theory is that with the "success" of Ikaruga the public has taken a step back from seeing these "space shooter" games as just an over used genra (as it was in the 90's with the 16 bit consoles) that does not warrent more than a look: to a lucrative market, but not enough to warrent a full home only production co. If you notice, aside from R-Type Final and Gradius 5, most of the shmups coming out are only considered safe for home market because of their arcade success.

Just a theory.

Now all we need is for Atlus to release ESP Rade as well. It would be nice to get both games in one purchase, but I would definitely buy them seperately.

Damn this game looks hot! I can't wait to pick this up. I like shmups with characters instead ships. It makes for a nice change of pace every so often :cool:

I guess that's why I like Sol Divide on the Saturn so much. It's not the best game, but it is a nice change of pace!

i'm so happy right now i think i could cry.
just the fact that arika are releasing a cave shooter that doesn't end with donpachi bodes well for other cave games being released.
imagine ketsui ,guwange,dangun feveron,esperade ,espegaluda and dodonpachi dai ou jou all available on ps2.
that is too much cave goodness to bear thinking about.
the port of daioujou was really good so this should be shit hot too
