I grew up watching the Big Guy and will always remain a fan for life. However, lately I haven't caught up with ole G... how's he doing?

Last G film I saw was GMK (the one with my 2nd favorite, BARAGON!!! He was awesome in FRANKENSTEIN CONQUERS THE WORLD... R.I.P, Nick Adams :( )

So anyway, I heard his latest movie was again vs. MechaGodzilla? AGAIN??

I also heard that movie was a fluff at the box offices -- is this true? And this year will be the 50th anniversary... what is G's next film going to be?

I wonder if there will be a day where Godzilla movies stop being made. My favorite G movie... hmmm.... I really liked Godzilla vs. MechaGodzilla '93 and THE SMOG MONSTER. SEA MONSTER was also kinda fun. Monster Zero was cool and the subtitled Godzilla vs. KING KONG will always rock.

BTW, which are your fave G movies? :)

Ahh yes GXMXMG was the latest. This year is the big 50th annivesery. Toho has given the 50th anniversry film a pre-preduction name. THE GODZILLA. seriously, the title is engrish. Its supposedly going to be a dream match type movie with monsters from all throughout the godzilla films. cant wait to find out more about it =)

my fav overall is Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla 93..

I thought Godzilla Vs Mechagodzilla 2002 was really good i love it how far the special effects have come since Godzilla 2K :D ( btw they keep doing Mechagodzilla films becaus ethe previous MG films have always bought in the most money)

As for my fave film there all amazing from the amazing story of the first to the 60's Cheese that is G Vs Gigan & G Vs Megalon right upto the AMAZING Heisei series with the demise of G in VS Destroyah!

All Monsters Attack AKA Godzillas Revenge Sucked though! it was like one of those Sitcom Clip shows :mad_2:

BTW Invasion of the Astro Monster AKA Monster 0 was released in japan on Dec 19 1965 and a US Release on July 29 1970 :D

You ALL need to see Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: All Out Monster Attack! This movie JUST got released here in the US on DVD and I saw it this week. Godzilla Vs Megagurius was released as well, but it's not as good (actually, nots really good at all).

Anyway, G,M,KG: AOMA is FUCKING AWESOME! It was made in 2001. Godzilla fights against Boragon, Mothra and King Ghidorah, along with the military and fucks ALL kinds of shit up. When he's fighting Boragon they have a helicopter flying around and they are doing commentary... it remids me of wrestling! Plus, the new suit for G looks damn cool, especially with the shite eyes. You NEED to see this movie!

Also Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla comes out later this year on R1 DVD. It's the latest GXMG movie (not to be confused with GXMXMG just released in theatres in Japan). I already have mine prepurchased :D

The best part is all those DVDs include the original Japanese language.

One funny thing about G,M,KG:AOMA is that on Mothra, you can't see the strings. But on Megagurius, another flying creature, there are several scenes you can, even though it came AFTER G,M,KG:AOMA! Silly.

um, GMK (2001) came out after GXM (2000). GMK got a better director, so im guessing he didnt wanna see strings. Sweet, the US DVDs are out now, thanks for the tidbit. But what about extras? I have the region 3 HK DVDs...is it worth losing these and getting the american ones?

Extras? What extras?

All you get are Eng/JPN language with optional Eng subs. You get trailers for other movies and that's about the extent of what you get.

R3? Are you sure they aren't bootlegs? They may be bootlegs of the R2 JPN releases and they also give you the extras? I don't know, as I've not seen them.

What I was saying in my post is that in Godzilla Vs Megaguirius you could see strings and in Godzilla, Mothra, and King Ghidorah: All Out Monster Attack you couldn't. G,M,KG:AOMA came BEFORE Megagurius I think, which is why the strings struck me as odd. You wouldn't think the "technology" would be downgraded, but whatever.

GxMG (or Gozilla Against Mechagodzilla for the US release) hasn't been released YET on DVD in R1... it's a preorder link. It comes out on the 23 of March this year. I'm hoping they pick up the new Godzilla movie and get it out pretty quick in the US...

Megagurius came out before GMK (Godzilla x Mothra x King Ghidorah). It was the first movie after "Godzilla 2000". I like all Godzilla movies from the original to the Heisei to the new 'alternate universe' series, but I think GMK is my favorite (although I prefer the suit of 2000 and GxM). Beyond being a great Godzilla movie, I think GMK stands up as a legitimately good movie in general, and I have no problems recommending it to non-kaiju watching friends. As stated above, GMK also had a great director, Shusuke Kaneko, who did a widely acclaimed trilogy of Gamera movies in the '90s. It's great that these are all being released domestically now, especially with Japanese language tracks...

my R3 DVDs are official, they got japanese language with english subs, the only extras are trailers. thats about it.

As for the various universes, a lot has happened.

OK lemme try and sort them out

Showa Era

Godzilla '54 thru Terror of Mechagodzilla '78

This is the series most people are familiar with started serious, but became goofy towards the late 60's. This series ended in 1978, but Toho wanted him back in a new way. So they nixed the story in every movie in the old series and made a direct sequel to the original called Godzilla (1984), which came out here as Godzilla 1985. This one ignores everything that happened after the original '54 flick. This brought on the

Heisei Era

Godzilla '54 - > Godzilla 1984 thru Godzilla vs Destroyah 1995

So Godzilla died. But fans wanted more especially after the US version in 98. So we ended up with new movies starting with Godzilla 2000. Each one is in its own "universe" meaning its only tied to the original.

Godzilla 2000 is the exception cuz they never make any reference to him showing up before. So this one is a stand alone movie.

Godzilla '54 - Godzilla X Megaguirus (2000). This one ties GXM directly to the original '54 version.

Godzilla '54 - GMK (2001). Again, this one ties to the original '54 movie only with Godzilla appearing again decades after his first romp and fighting the 3 guardian spirits.

Now, this is where things get interesting. In 2002's Godzilla X Mechagodzilla, it ties to Godzilla '54 again but now shows other monsters appeared in this timeline like Mothra and Gaira the Gargantua. This time line goes...

Godzilla '54 - > Mothra (1961) - > War of the Gargantuas (1966) -> Godzilla X Mechagodzilla (2002) - > Godzilla X Mothra X Mechagodzilla (2003)

So you got a bunch of alternate universes and stuff, sorta like Marvel in a way.

lol Thanks for the explaination. A bunch of direct sequels unrelated to one another.....why is it that long series of stories always get wacky with timelines? Sheesh.

My fault. I thought I watched the 2 movies this past weekend in "chronological" (in terms of release dates in Japan, not in terms of G- timelines). You are correct. Megagurius was 2001, GxMxK was after it. Hit me with the stupid stick! :D

Any Godzilla fan owes it to themselves to watch GxMxK ASAP.
