I've been hearing alot about Mel Gibsons,"The Passion", and was wondering just how good it is? Its supposed to come out on Ash Wednesday, but there have been a ton of advanced screenings.

I dont think being religious has anything to do with if you have seen an advanced screening or not. I wasnt asking if there were religious members out there just if anyone had seen this movie. BTW, just because you are not religious , does not mean that you cannot see this movie. This movie is actualy baised on a factual historic event. It has been proven in many Roman historical books. It is baised on an event in history, much like 'Black Hawk Down'.

True being religious has nothing to do with it.. but it has to do with the subject matter which is not to my tastes and to stay on topic.. no I have not seen an advanced screening of it.

The only ppl who have seen the advance screening of The Passion of The Christ are the actors in it, and a mish mash of religious peoples (Pastors/Bishops/Priests/ etc.) along with some movie critics. Everyone else has to wait. ---Personally I don't feel it will match up to The Gospel of John, but I'm going to see it anyhow.

How dare that Mel Gibson make a movie about my personal Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ?

Who does he think he is?

As soon as I finish planning and carrying out a string of abortion doctor shootings, I'm going after Gibson next.

Well then I stand corrected. :) *I was going off of the reports I'd heard on television stating that only religious/movie critics types were allowed to see it. *But there is this one guy who's rented out an entire 20 screen complex to show this movie in Dallas when it comes out, so you never know how MEL decides to distribute this, seeing how this is getting even more controversy than Martin Scorcesee's (however that's spelled) Last Temptation of Christ when that was released.

Hey,

It supposedly is very beautifuly shot and very true to what happened 2000 years ago. The Pope saw it, and although a Pope is not alowed to officialy acknowledge a movie, said it was very good.

That rumor was put to rest last week.

The Pope did see it, but didn't comment on it.

One of his staff said he liked it, but the Pope never gives opinions on these things. The quote that is being attributed to him is "it is as it was", but there's no proof that he ever said that.

However, with that said, anyone interested in studying effective movie promotion (using the ol' "all publicity is good publicity"), look no further than this.

Gibson and his father are members of an off-shoot of traditional Catholicism that does not recognize Vatican II (any Catholic knows what that is) -so that means he does not (a) believe the pope is infalliable and (b) he does not accept the Pope's absolvetion of the Jews for Jesus' death. This is reflected in the movie which is why there's a lot of ruckus.

Of course, he really doesn't want to have subtitles and he filmed the movie entirely in two dead languages (no one speaks them anymore). So, if he gets his wish you may be in for a very long movie. he and his studio have been fighting over this (a few of his screenings have had subtitles, but he claims they were only to help religious scholars and will be removed in the end)

Yeah,
I also heard that he wanted the subtitles removed. That is crazy though, why make a beautiful movie, in which you poured you heart and soul(not to mention his own millions) into, then when everyone goes and see it they wont understand it?? I guess his prospective is that he's the film maker and everyone knows the story, but I think the reason why you make movies is for (1)entertainment and (2) to get your own ideas and beliefs out for the world to see and listen. If he takes the subtitles out, he is making a point, but he is definatly cutting off many people. I would see it anyway, just to see his take on the crusifiction of Christ, but I would realy like to see what the conversations in the movie are all about.

I heard that he may be leaving the sub-t's in because no movie house will buy it unless they are in there.
