I just got my PS2 the other night and I am loving it. I also have purchased the following games:

Ace Combat 04
Final Fantasy X
Gran Turismo 3
Jak and Daxter
Kingdom Hearts
Onimusha
Silent Hill 3
Tekken Tag Tournament
Tekken 4
Virtua Fighter 4 EVO


What other games are really worth getting for this system? Are there a lot of nice NEO ports offered for this system?

Add CvS2, GGX2, and Devil May Cry to that list.

SFEX3 and FFX-2 as well. I'm sure there are more I should mention, but I'm pressed for time so I'm not. :p

Yes it is, and will be ported to the PS2. It was originally slated to come out in February, but retailers have it pushed back several months until September. At least you'll have some time to break in and/or complete the rest of your new games until then.

It has been ported to the PlayStation2.

This port looks very nice, motion blur was added, as well as great transparency effects.

War of the Monsters.

The story mode is ho hum, but the exhibitions and free for alls RULE. Very good 2P game --its a shame you cant tag up vs the CPU.

All are still Japan only. I wouldn't get my hopes up for a localization of Ys Eternal Complete or DoDonPachi DOJ - Initial D might be released eventually (I'm not sure). It's worth looking into mod options for the amazing Japanese software for this system.

Onimusha 2 - definitely one of my fave games of all time - simply BEAUTIFUL.

You could also try Fatal Frame 1 and 2. I'm playing 2 right now, and it's pretty awesome (especially if you like survival horror).

Silpheed is decent, I really like the music even though it is a pretty awful shmup.

R-Type Final comes out in about a week so be sure to buy it.

I heard Mobile Light Force 2 is good. Despite the title and cover-art/American premise it is supposed to be a good 2D ver shmup.

And get all the other games that people mentioned.
