I'm about to set up a PC CD burner, and I have not done so in years.

Is it worth keeping the old CD drive in there, as well as the new burner, or should I just pick the burner?

If I set up both, does t matter which one is set up as master or slave?

Thanks for the help.

I would set the burner as master. As far as keeping the old cd drive, what speed is it? Does it support DMA? Do you plan on copying one cd exactly to another a lot?

I have no idea. DMA? I think my friend just wants to burn CDs from MP3s. I'd have to ask.

Thanks, though.

If you have room for two drives then I'd say it's worth it to keep them both in there so you can do disk to disk copies.

If the IDE chain for the CD drives is only going to have the CDROM and the CDR on it, then it doesn't really matter which one is master and which one is slave. Personally I prefer to put the CDR on master. Don't forget the master drive is the one that gets put on the end of the IDE cable and not the middle.

Hell you can just set the drives to cable select for the master/slave options and not even worry about it.

Also, if the CDR is going to be on the same IDE chain as a hard drive make the CDR slave and the HD the master.

Good luck, it should go pretty smooth.

Cool, cool I haven't even looked inside this computer yet, but Im betting it's going to be okay. I just have to worry about not blowing it out.

Just change the exsisting drive for the new one.

unplug the old, and hook up the new CDR exactly the same way as the old. It will probably take you longer to open the case, than to install the new drive.

I don't even bother with the regular CD drive that I have, with the speed of the new burners, I find it easier just to make the image then burn.

If you're looking for "on-the-fly" burns, Get a REAL GOOD CD-Rom. A UltraPlex 40Max ( Scsi-2 ) will let you more than happy.

Ide Drives are always tricky for those otf burns. Thankfully there's Burn-Proof tecnologies now.:smirk:
