Does anyone else experience the search.lycos.com bug?

I don't know when this all started, but after I enter an address into Internet Explorer, it would seem to lock up as if frozen, then unfreeze, but would redirect me to search.lycos.com and have the web address I just entered into the address field input into search.lycos.com and yield the total number of hits. I'm worried that it's some kinda bug, or worse......a virus. :help:

Download Spybot. A lot of Spyware will change where the search function takes you.

If that doesn't fix it, I'm not sure what your problem is.

You can always use the free Online virus scanner, House Call if you think it's a virus and don't want to buy a scanner...

I'm not aware what Spyware is, could you explain it to me please?

Spyware mainly refers to programs that get installed in your PC without you being asked/noticing, which change certain settings of your PC, or make pop-up ads appear all the time, it's not really "harmful", but it turns into a real headache after a while... this things can be deleted with either a Spyware killing application or a good anti-virus.

If you are running a Win9X OS (95,98,ME) then it CAN cause problems, as I've seen Spyware slow machines to a CRAWL and often crash.

You can download SpyBot from
here.

Basically, as Mushiki said, Spyware is any prgram that installs itself on your PC through questionable methods (clicking "no" on some install options actually means "yes" type shit) and that either tracks websites you go to and reports back to a main server, serves you with pop-ups for no reason and/or both, along with other odd things.

If you like to visit porn sites, I can't recommend Spybot enough.

Spybot will also pick up cookies of tracking sites, though they aren't necesarily Spyware.
