Looks like it's the GCN!

This is kind of impressive considering what people call the "crappy fighter" controller. It probably helps that an arcade stick was available to offset the awkward GCN controller.

Anyway, the graph came from IGN via the NPD research people.

Which company made the arcade stick for the GC and where can I find it?

Surprising it sold co crappy on X-Box. The PS2 ver was much dumber (Heihachi!?)

but no surprise, Link was cooler than Spawn easily.

I happen to own all 3 versions and I'd pick GameCube version overall. But definitely PS2 version is the most inferior version among the three. :spock:

There is supprisingly little difference between playing using the PS2 pad snd the GC pad, which suggests that Namco did spend at least a decent ammount of time tweaking the controls for the analogue stick.
I havent played the game using any custom arcade stick though. Nor do I particularly feel the need to.

I enjoyed this game a bit but I like the DC version of Soul Calibur better. The DC's graphics hold up quite nice to the sequels graphics on the other next gen systems.

You have to take into account it's quite a niche title for the gamecube, except for Smash Bros Melee and MKDA it's the only 'real' 3D fighter on the system. PS2 has a ton of alternatives and the Xbox has DOA3, MK and crap like Tao Feng.

But yeah, the games crap anyways, such a dissapointment compared to the absolutely steller Dreamcast original.

edit:

thought this was great

Then as if one shitty Tekken game after another wasn't enough, the Sony version of Soul Calibur 2 includes "Heihachi," a 75 year old grandpa, as an extra character: BORING. The Xbox version gets Spawn with a badass axe, and the PS2 version gets a balding geriatric and a bottle of Centrum. For his special move, Heihachi sits in a rocking chair on a porch and passes out Werther's Originals

While the Gamecube may have fewer 3D fighters, it isn't something that lends to much aid in sales of quality 3D fighters. There are quite a few on the PS2, but only one or two (Tekken Tag being one) sold better then Soul Calibur 2 did on the PS2. There are a few on X-box as well, but only DOA3 seems to have done better as far as I know, which can be attributed to it's early release in the X-box lifespan. It was either DOA3 or Halo.

I played all 3, and wathching the guy from tekken on xbox in his pampers (or whatever you call them)is not something very attractive to watch. Spawn is ok, but the xbox controller made me feel it was limited for some reason in comparison to the xbox and gcn version of it. I didn't like the game enough to have a favourite, however yes to have one to hate the most (ps2 [fu and your controller]).

Link was probably a big factor in the Cube versions success, i mean there's like an army of rabid zelda fans that would buy ANYTHING with him in it.

I have the PS2 version and yes Heihachi is a lame exclusive character. Spawn is so much more bad ass, and link seems a hell of a lot cooler. Again, there are a legion of Zelda fans (my friend Mike included that would by anything with Link.. He even has a tatto(sp?) of the OCT sword and shield and the Triforce). Too each their own I suppose. Yeah, Heihachi was lame, but I would have liked to someone else in his place like Sho from BAT.

What's this fandom for the arcad version, it was the last new game my arcade got , and the graphics were crud, no wonder peeps dont go to the arcade when the PS2 version looks a LOT better.

Boring game.

Are you being serious? If so, he is the old dude on Tekken.

It's this guy:
tk4_profile_heihachi.jpg

I can't even believe they put him in the game and expected it to sell.

I also felt that the graphics in the PS2 version were quite inferior to the others, what with jaggies and texture crawl. The only thing the X-Box version is superior to the GCN on, IMO, is the sound department. Some of the GCN sounds were... lifeless... when compared to the X-Box version.

And as far as it selling so well on the GCN, I don't think it's because there are no fighters on the system. I mean, look at the 3D fighters available on the other systems (VF4 excluded) and really there aren't that many great ones.
