Did I get a used game?

I went and bought Prince of Persia for the Gamecube today at WalMart. When I got out to the car, I noticed there was a rattling in the case, and when I opened it, the game had come loose inside. Fortunately, the game was still fine. But then I noticed that the shrink rap was really easy to get off, and the plastic that holds the insert on was warped some how, like it had been heated up or something.

Now, the game and the manual are fine, so I'm thinking they took and old copy out of this case and put in a new one. Which is ok, but if I got a used copy for full priced, I'd be fairly pissed.

What do you guys think?

Don't know what to say about the "warping", but a lot of Gamecube games come in cheap shrinkwrap. The latest Star Wars game is one example - it looks like it was simply resealed...

It's not unusual for discs to come loose, either.

Its possible it could be used... When I use to go into EB there were 2 types of packaging so I usually could tell whether they were fucking me over or not.

Type 1:
Plastic is very sturdy and is very recognizeable on most games. There is a certain quality if you rub your fingers over it.

Type 2: (The Resealable EB Plastic)
This is the kind of plastic where EB tries to re-package a game as new when its obviously used. The plastic is similar to a small sandwich bag... no quality... gets scrunched up easily.

Furthermore you can tell if its used... if the plastic isnt crosss layered over one another at the top of the case. Eb is too lazy to do a professional packaging job.

They must be doing that with newer games. It seems like games like Metroid Prime and Zelda came in tight shrink rap, like PS2 games. I know what you mean though, PoP looked like someone wrapped it in plastic and turned on the hair dryer.

I didnt' figure the disc being loose had anything to do with it being used, but you never know, they could have just slapped it in there. As long as the game is in good condition, I'm fine with it.

The shitty thing is, they didn't give me Splinter Cell with it. But the Xbox version had the offer still.

Yeah, we (CompUSA) get a lot of Gamecube games that are sealed very poorly, oftentimes its already torn by the time it gets to us.

This may have happened to me when I purchased Viewtiful Joe from Toys-R-Us. I don't remember if the shrinkwrap was tight/loose, but the disc had [almost] come loose and the plastic on the DVD case was very "wavy," like it had been heated. Everything seemed to be in perfect condition, though, so I didn't bother returning it.

It IS possible they received the game as a return and when it was tested it was fine so they re-wrapped it? I know Best Buy has done that near where I live, so I wouldn't put it past Wal*Mart either...

If it bothers you that badly, take it back for an exchange. I know they won't REFUND an opened game, but they should allow an exchange.

Does the manual look like it's been thumbed through? Greasy fingerprints on the cover (assuming they aren't yours :D)?

The manual and disc both appear to be in perfect condition, so I'm not going to bother returning it. I can handle having a previously owned case, but I draw the line at previously owned games, at least for full price.

Well the exterior might have been damaged in shipping. Thats what it sounds like to me.
