...............How much is there to be said about this game? Often hear such things branded around like "the Saturns answer to Final Fantast VII", which it certainly isnt. I'm not going to say it's better than the mainstream view that FFVII is the greatest RPG, i havnt played that properly to judge.

Certainly not in the mould of a standard RPG for the obvious fact that no battles take place with you as the lead character on the ground, everything is in the air. Perhaps other RPG's do give a similar sense of action/movement, I thought Skies Of Arcadia would but was well off the mark. The battles never bored me, the sense of excitement was just great......for someone like my self not an RPG gamer, it was fresh to say the least.

Aside from description about gameplay, the main pull i found with this game was the pure magic, after loving the previous 2 Panzer Dragoon games, it was wonderfull to get a closer look at the world they were set in, such scenes as seeing the hallowed Shellcoof ship again added to the lineage.

Don't get me started on the graphics, particullarly taking into account the year and the Saturns dubious capabilities.......at first the in game graphics are quite shabby, but within half an hour, the full shwoosh comes into effect, pure stunning awsomness, solid polygons, lovely use of colour, the worlkd is certainly rich.
The scenes within the Tower particularly amaze me until this day, coupled with the dark dense soundtrack........the atmosphere IS the game.

To say I love this game is an understatement, i could go into dense anal detail but would rather hear about other people enjoying, disliking or looking forward to playing it, go for it.

Great

One of the greatest games on an already legendary system! The first time I heard the words "Ni Rai" I got a chill down my spine. Azel could be one of the coolest dragonriders to ever grace a video game. PDS still to this day has the single best battle interaction in an RPG ever! Grandia II has a phenomenal battle system as well, but nothing can touch PDS, ever. The fantastic world in which the Panzer games takes place has never been more important or more well explored than in PDS. From the depths of the opening cinema, till the boss that destroys the cliffs around you as you battle it, till the first time you morph into defense mode and swivel around to a safety zone right after the words "Ni Rai" are uttered....nothing can touch the greatness of Panzer Dragoon Saga. Tons of hype, and worth every single bit of it. Sell your soul to aquire this game if you haven't played it, it's worth it

PDS is my favorite 32bit RPG as well.

I won a shrinkwrapped copy of it last year from EGM (!). I think I am going to sell it since I have my original and I don't really need a shrinkwrapped copy :p

PDS is way better than the turd that is FF VII. I hated FF VII with a passion because of extremely poor character designs.

PDS on the other hand was one of the best 32 bit RPGs I ever played. It ranks up there with Dragon Force :D

Hey- remember how they made the black dude with the gun for an arm in FFVII talk all 'street' and ghetto?

What was that all about.

PDS is my second favorite- if not favorite- RPG ever. It beats the pants off of every over-hyped Final Fantasy Square has released to date.

This is the ONLY Panzer game I still have yet to play. :( *Never could find a copy at the time it came out, and finding one MINT hasn't been that common for me. Plus I seem to see it's one of the pricer games out there for the Saturn, but for good reason no doubt. ---Alas, someday I will know the "greatness" of Panzer Dragoon Saga.

Amazing game, one of the most underplayed RPG's of all time. I can't describe the feelings of amazement I had the first time I played it. While a little slow at first, once you get an hour or two into the game it picks up the pace and (in my opinion), ends way too soon. I guess that's my only real complaint.

Orta was a worthy Panzer game, but it's time to make another RPG. Please, Smilebit, make it happen before Sammy fucks things up within Sega beyond repair.

I would'nt even compare it too FF7 its an RPG alright but its not in the same style.

PDS is a brilliant game made by brilliant minds. The gameplay, replayability, music, characters, and art found within this game make it worth owning the system. If you can find it out there, you're lucky. I've stashed my copy away someplace safe until I find a backup of some sorts. Good to see other fans of this game on the forums.

PDS truly is a masterpeice. Those who enjoyed PDS (and the other panzers) should check out my Panzer Dragoon Fan site (link is in my sig). So now all shameless plugs aside PDS really is a great game with an excellent story. I have had my copy for a few years now.

The first time I went through PDS it only took me 14 hours. I didn't go after everything, but I had thought it would take me longer than that. I can't remember what level I was or anything, it's been too damn long...

Pretty much the same here, i bought it on a friday , stayed up 2 nights and had it beat by monday, though not properly i had missed the fist Dyna (sp?) chip where the Seagulls lead you off in the Valley, and most of the burning forest part (where you can get to the ship in th ruins maybe?? that i did the 2nd time through. I think the shortness stops it from getting boring (though the tunnels in the Tower were labourious) couldve been longer.....still great tho:D

It's funny, because I'm not really big into RPGs, yet that's what some of my favorite games are. PDS probably being at the top of the list. On one hand, I understand the love for FF7, seeing as how it was the first high profile next gen RPG, and it has set the mold for many that have come since. I also love the storyline. On the other hand, the amount of random battles is just out of control at times, and the combat system isn't anything spectacular. I think that's the key reason I never finished it.

PDS, on the other hand, probably has the most enjoyable battle system in any RPG I've ever played. I would go around looking for fights, not because I wanted to level up, but just because it was fun. Add to that a great story, incredible atmosphere and graphics that pushed the 3D limits of the system.

And if you're wondering why I said probably in relation to the greatness of PDS, the only other RPG that I love so much is Vagrant Story. But that's entirely another thread.

PDS is one of the best RPG's ever. I think the 32 bit consoles hold the best RPG's still. Defenetly the atmosphere is huge in this game. The intro alone is the best ever. PDS is totally different from most RPG's, I like the ''free'' moving around the enemies and full 3D angles.

I never really touched the Final Fantasy series, since I really didn't like the mainstream hyping about the games. I played FFVII when it got launched and stopped soon after. Bought FFIX and thought it was crap. Now I gave FFVII some time and it turned out to be a great great game, much better then FFIX and FFVIII which was pretty good too. I don't get it how Square makes an entire series worse then FFVII although I haven't played the PS2 ones.

I bought a copy when it was released, and ended up with two because the last disc in the first package was scratched during shipping and I was shipped another free of charge. I gave away the damaged copy to a friend, who repaired it, and last month (many years later) he sold it on eBay for $150, with the disc partially repaired!!!

Ironically, for a game that is worth so much now and has gotten such rave reviews, I have never played it; I just have a tough time getting into RPGs.

this is the best game i played to this day, the atmosphere, the combat sistem and the world they created made me love this game so much.
now that publishers are making remakes of all the classics why not make a remake of this game. i hope it gets done, or make a new rpg with the pd world.

All the PD games are worth owning and playing.
But I think the best Saturn game is still Shining Force 3.
