I found a great deal... I think. But I just want to run it by to see what others think.

I decided to spend less money than I originally had planned. So with $1500 as a top limit I started looking at 34" widescreen HDTVs. The only ones that have a DVI port where in the $2000 range. Best Buy has a Daewoo on sale for $1300, and a Philips for $1500. But again they lack DVI port.

I found a local RCA dealer that will sell me a new RCA D34W135D for $1350 delivered. And it has DVI port! :)

Only thing is I cant for the life of me seem to find a decent product review ANWYHERE. Much less full specs. I know it does progressive scan. Im not sure of its upconversion capabilities, but it does say it does that. It does 3:2 pulldown, and it comes with a built in progressive scan DVD player. (Saves me $100 there)

Plus the store im buying it at does there own repair work. So the first 90 days they would pick it up and do any repairs free of charge. And I could get an extended warranty later on.

I mean it sound FANTASTIC to me (compared to similare 34" HDTVs ive seen). Im just worried because if it sounds to good to be true... My left arm for a list of FULL SPECS :blow_top:

Anyone know anything about this TV? I could get it today. And probably already would have if only I could find more reviews or specs.

RCA is suppose to be of poor quality. I have never owned one but that is what they say.

You can get a nice 34" XBR Sony for $1700 if you can find a good place. It is hard to find and I have only seen them at my BX.

Well that answers that question :(

Well what about daewoo or Philips? Those are the only other contenders for me that I can afford. Of course they lack the DVI port.

But its RCA, Daewoo, Philips, or nothing.

GOD NOOOOOO!.
THE PAIN, PLEASE STOP THE PAIN!!!

honestly man, i would recomend taking nothing for now. save up for a few months and go with the sony.
lets face it:

- you want a 4:3 set
- you were initialy going with the sony (with a protection plan)

all signs point to holding off. Just my 2 cents.

Well your probably right.

But an extra 5 or 6 hundred is alot to me right now. So ive got to either settle for something around 1500 or less, or just not get one.

Waiting probably is a good idea. Im just not sure I want to wait another year.

Its that damn DVI port thats killing me. Heck I probably wont even use the thing for a couple years if ever. Maybe ill just go with the 32" sony. Its the same screen size as ive got now. I think I can live with that. And its better quality than the widescreens in my price range.

I think im going to head to town and look them over just to think about it. Its getting to a point though where I just want to get something in order to get it over with. Not a wise attitude to shop with I know. :(

Nothing is good.

You do not really need a HD set now anyways. A good year would be the best time to wait. Do not become so impatient.

Impatience is a virtue... Or so ive heard. Then again maybe it was patience, I wasn't listening to close I was in a hurry. :p

Yaknow I think im just going to go with my initial idea. I originally planned to get the 32" sony. Its just when I got heated up on this the past couple weeks I started thinking about widescreen and all that mumobo jumbo. Which is great if your rich. But im not. Neither do I have alot of patience.

Im satisfied with the screen size of my analog JVC 32". Really I am. I only sit about 4 - 6 feet away from it. So its still relatively large for me. I mainly want progressive scan, high resoluiton, and all those goodies. I was rather skeptical about going widescreen anyway since most of my games and TV shows are 4:3.

Im going to get the 32" Sony. That was my original plan anyway. Its a high quality TV that wont keep me up at night worrying about my bills.

Thanks guys. :) I know im getting to be a bit of a drama queen about TVs lately :eek_2:

Good luck with your new set. :) Let me know how you like it. BTW does some one know if it is possible to play XBOX games in 480p and 720p on a 4:3 set?

Well just got back from buying the TV. I got the 4 year extended warranty to. They had em on sale all TVs over $299 where 10% off. So that helped to.

I think this is the best fit for me really. The 36" one wouldn't fit on my TV stand. So it would have been $500 more, plus 100 or 200 for a new stand. So $600 - $700 more just for 4" more screen... Not worth it.

About progressive scan on 4:3 TVs. Unless im greatly mistaken ill be able to play my games in 32" progressive scan with this Sony. This one doens't do 720p. Instead it upconverts it to 1080i.

But im pretty sure that it'll be full screen 4:3 for my games. For example Halo doesn't support widescreen, but it is 480p. I mean 480p isn't really HD anyway. So, yeah I think it does. (Can anyone confirm this 100%)

It also has verticle compression for widescreen mode. So I wont loose any resolution when watching widescreen DVDs.
