The last time I played a handheld system where I was actually taking advantage of its portability was like 1991. I only play them to play good games like Mario and Luigi or Metroid Fusion. Do people here really get excited over portability?

I couldn't give a toss about handheld games.I have a gameboy somewhere but it only had a few hours use.I bought a GBA and after being unable to see the screen unless I was stood underneath about 20,000 watts of halogen lighting I fitted it with an afterburner. Then it was no good as most of the games for it I already still have for my SFC.

Then there was when to play it?If I was in the house then I have plenty of machines that I can play comfortably on my telly. Why should I be sat at home squinting at a little 2.5" screen? Also I drive so I wouldn't be needing one for bus or train journeys so it was really a redundant machine and had to go.

Soon after I sold my NGPC and 22 clamshell games as all it was doing was sitting on a shelf not being played.

Nah,screw handheld gaming. From my perspective there is no point in spending money on one.

I love handheld gaming, more specifically, my SP. Right before I go to bed I play a good hour or two of it. Right now I'm in the middle of Metroid Fusion. After that, I'll be hitting Breath of Fire 2 and a multitude of other games. Right now I use it mostly in bed right before I go to sleep. Sometimes I read, sometimes I play my SP.

Just because it's portable doesn't mean you have to always play it in the car or some BS. I'm taking a trip to Dallas in a couple days, and I'll be taking it with me so I'll have something to do on the way there, when I'm there, before I go to sleep, and when I come back. There's too many great games for it. I mean, sure, there's BOF2 for the SNES, but try finding that for $15.

I feel obligated to post and vote here.

Anyone on NG.com that doesn't own at least an NGPC with a bare cart of both Match of the Millenium and Card Fighters is truly missing out on some of the best games ever made by SNK. You could easily have a system, those 2 games, and Neo Turf Masters for $50 shipped.

Freakin' great stuff.

Besides, if you don't like handheld games, what the hell do you do on teh crapper?

The only thing I really play more than my GC is my GBA so I guess they're pretty rad.

If they didn't have so many good RPGs on the GBA, I probably wouldn't own one at this point. I never play on the GBA anymore anyway, as I don't want to go fucking blind and I'm REFUSE to waste more money on a GBA SP.

Handheld gaming is very awesome. I've always liked playing handheld games from Nintendo Game Boy to SEGA Game Gear to NGPC to GBA SP. So many great games, so many great times.

I chose the "I completely love handhelds on all levels" option as I do, plain and simple. I never really cared much for the GB Pocket or GB Color though, but I loved the original GB and now the GBA/SP. Since I've never liked long games such as RPG's or Metroid and the like, portables have always been perfect for me.

I like good games. If good games appear on a handheld, then I'll pick them up, but the portability function is useless to me. If I'm out, that means I'm doing something and gaming isn't an option. I seriously can't think of one situation in the last few years where I was out and had time for video games.

My first handheld:

Nintendo's Game & Watch (Parachute and Manhole)

2nd is Zaxxon

3rd is original Gameboy. Can't believe how fuzzy and green that screen is nowadays

Lynx was awesome.

Gamegear is okay.

Turboexpress was unbelievable. So is the Nomad.

My last one is NGPC. I am not buying another GB.

I personally dont use my GBA SP much, unless there is a specific game for it that is only available on that system (EG, Lady Sia, Shantae, Castlevania: COTM, Ninja Cop).
That said, its usefull for when I'm on night shift and need to kill time. Most GBA games can be paused at any point (no long cut-scenes or loading times) and can be put down/picked up at ease, which is perfect if you're in a situation where you may only get 5 minutes work every hour.

Yes, and I get paid to do this. :D

I don't care for any handheld systems. I think if the Nomad had a better screen and didn't completely eat batteries, that would be a nice handheld. But pretty much all handhelds have major problems and just aren't worth it. :oh_no:

I love handheld gaming... have since I was a lad. My first hand held was a gay ass football game that really could have been anything. But it was suposidly football. After those I had many other Tiger games and even the Mini Arcade games Pac-Man and Donkey Kong.

But my first hand held system was Game Boy. At that time of course I didnt have a job and my parents wouldnt spend $100 to buy a video game for me. But with luck there was a contest through Captain Crunch where you had to figure who was the real captain crunch, the puzzle was solved by getting the game pieces from Capt. Crunch.

So anyway I come back home from a long Summer Vacation with my family and low and behold I got a package that held my Gameboy along with Tetris. Man was I excited.
Of course since then I have had just about every hand held system known on this planet:
GB, GBP, GBC, GBA, GBA SP, Virtual Boy o_O Game.com, GG, Nomad, GP32, NGPC, Wonderswan, Lynx, Zodiac.

The only one that I can think of that I dont currently own is the Turbo Express. And there is one other I cant remember the name of it. They were trying to compete with the GB and not sold in stores only through EGM and crap. It was a dark grey color and had yellow buttons. Played really crappy games too. I'm still trying to buy both of these systems. Everwhere I look for that crap one comes to a dead end though.

Oh, and I supose some others that I missed would be Gameboy Light, Neo Geo Pocket (BW), Game.com Pro and a few other re-hashes of other systems.

Anybody who actually read all of this... yes it probably was a big waste of time, and I almost feel sorry for you. Why did I said all of this, I don't know. But as you can see I love hand held games. But I'm this way with home consoles as well.

VOTED!

They're so-so. I don't care much about playing games on the go.

My GBA Player gets more play than the actual GBA SP... so unless I need to beat someone up while taking a crap, there's no point in it. Wherever I'm at usually, theres too many distractions for me to actually concentrate on a game, much less be able to read a book.

I have a Gameboy, and uh...i plan on getting an SP when I remember to. For the moment I ostly use a GB Player anyway, only need a GBa to unlock Metroid in Metroid Prime.

And I have a Virtual Boy and an R-Type (it was 50 cents, so I couldn't resist)

I own quite a few handhelds,

original GameBoy
GameBoy Advance SP
NEC TurboExpress (oh kickass)
Game Gear
Neo-Geo Pocket Color

I own the most games for my NEC TurboExpress, as it is basically my TG-16 in portable form and plays the same games as the home console. I own the least amount of games for my Game Gear. I never liked Game Gear much. NGPC is a delightful machine with much needed cartoonish graphics that really are quite refreshing. GBASP is my hottest item currently, its library is constantly being added to... I do plan on buying a crapload of NGPC games eventually though. I own some goodies but I would like to explore the different genres on the system.

I just play teh roms on my xbox.
Handheld screens blow, and I don't want / need portability (whoever needs to play games on the crapper, is spending too much time on the crapper)
I'm going to buy a GB player however, they are just too cool :buttrock:
