Does anyone remember an afterschool, live-action King Koopa TV show?

What was its name?

I remember it was on for a brief period, scheduled after the Super Mario Bros. Super show:

- King Koopa was some large, old guy in costume (kind of grumpy demeanor, I guess it was to be in character)
- it had a live audience of children
- the credits had King Koopa walking his strange dog down the street
- they would show some cartoons
- He would give away a prize at the end, like a PowerGlove.

I can't find any information about it anywhere online.

[Two years later and I have an update!]

I watched the Super Show but I've never heard of this. I'm interested if you find anything.

I remember this TV show- and if I'm not mistaken, it used to come on every second Friday in place of The Legend of Zelda. That is, Koopa's show one week, Zelda the next.

I think the name of it was King Koopa's Troopa or something to that degree. If not, then it must be the name of his troop of live action kids in between other stuff.

Way back when in elementary school, I remember a friend of mine was on that show in that very same 'troop,' and had the shirt to prove it. Today I saw the same guy at my school today going to his Philosophy of Time and Space class.

Man, let the tangents roll...

First it was the Super Mario Bros Super Show where Captain Lou Albano played Mario. The cartoon was based on Super Mario Bros 2 (USA) and every friday they showed Zelda which was based on Zelda 2. The same group also did Captain N on NBC which had pepole from Castlevania, Punch out and Mega Man on it. After Lou Albano's contract run out, the show became Club Mario which had two dumbass guys on it and only last 6 months if even that. The season after that Super Mario Bros 3 the cartoon started on NBC and ran for 2 seasons. Then when the Super Nintendo came out in the US Super Mario Bros 3 became Super Mario World and Captain N and the old Zelda cartoon became one show where Captain N got sucked in to Zelda a link to the past and the show still kept the Captain N name.

The 2 other shows were Video Power and Gamepro TV. Video Power sucked so bad it made X Play look like a late 90's Gamefan mag. It had 5 mintunes at the begining of the show where the dorky host played games (mainly turbo grafx 16 and third party genesis games). Then for 15 mins they showed a cartoon based on Alcciam charcters from Narc, Iron Sword, Big foot :annoyed:, Klax.

Gamepro TV was the best of the best of video game shows. It had JD Ross and the guy who played Cody on step by step as the hosts. They would do 25 mins of game reviews and 5 mins of useful codes. Their is even a whole show about the Neo Geo AES system which they went to SNK USA's warehouse and showed you how they build the MVS cabinets and how to use the memory card to transfer data from the MVS cabinet to the AES system. And a hole show about Castlevania 4 which won their game of the year.

And their was also Nick Arcade which sucked so bad I want even get into it.

I already know about all those other shows.

I'm talking about a DIFFERENT show altogether. I know a few people here have seen it and know what I'm talking about.

This is shaping up to be the forgotten Nintendo show.

Wow, thanks for the response. Since no one had been able to come up with anything earlier, it was no problem that you bumped the thread back up.

I still can't find any info about the show on the web -but I find it interesting that mainly Southern Californians seem to remember the show... I wonder if it was actually just a regional show.

It existed, but other than mentioning it here -dare I say it was forgotten?

The beginning of that song (at least) sounded like it ripped off another videogame theme. A NES title? I can't think of the game right now but I'm sure it'll come to mind. :help:

Whoa... what a memory blast! Upon seeing that Koopa guy's face, I suddenly remembered when I watched this show when I was a kid!

I think all they did was show a bunch of old Heckle and Jeckle cartoons, with interludes of Koopa making jokes about Mario.

I still have good memories of the Super Mario Bros. Super Show and the Zelda cartoons, but if I hadn't seen this clip, I would've never remembered this show.

Exactly!

In retrospect I love the fact that they gave HRH a surly, gruff, but ultimately likeable personality. It totally messed up my perception of him in the games.

I also remember being jealous of all the kids getting the brand new PowerGlove... oh man, how I wanted one! Then I got one. ... oh yeah, what a disappointment. I hate King Koopa for that, but I still love him... we have a complex relationship :crying:
