I love Halo. I think it's one of the best console games ever made.

Anyway, I always see these posts that say Halo sucks, so and so is better.

Well, I just set up my computer for some games and I want to play the best FPS out there.

*I'm not interested in multiplayer AT ALL.*

Just single player.

So if I liked Halo, what PC FPS will really blow me away?

/me prepares for t3h fl4m3s.

well.. I am VERY VERY VERY VERY partial to Delta Force: Black Hawk Down :drool_2:

I love the online play as well... but single play is very cool... and it can provide a challenge.

I liked doom2 the best if we can go back that far.... I LOVEEE Doom2. I played the crap out of that game. I was on Dwango...etc.

As for Duke 3d.. the excitement never really lasted... for me.

Quake 1 = oddity and somewhat cool.

Quake 2 = Probably the best FPS besides Doom2 and Delta Force: BHD... IMO.

Hexen was rather fun.... very fun.

I like Goldeneye, Perfect Dark and Half Life.

Quake was boring as hell, Duke Nukem is close once the novelty wears off, same thing with Quake 2 (I am talking about the single player here, I love Q2 for the multiplayer).

Halo is awesome, if only I didn't develop this "motion sickness" in my last few years. :(

System Shock 2 just to add a bit of variety. Single player only if I'm not mistaken.

The Rainbow Six series if you are into that sort of thing.

PS: Did anyone ever play SWAT 3? I always meant to play that after owning the first 2 SWAT games (which were nothing special, unfortunately)

get it :D I'll meet you online :)

the names bluevoodoo online.

Its really really cool. Especially single player.

Anymore... I am a CQB, with claymores, etc.etc

But... the 50 player online...... IS INTENSE lol.

They made the games longer.... IE about 700-800 kills to win for Team Death Match (the way to go IMO)..... and 25 vs 25 is just insane... it really is like war lol.

bullets going everywhere.... explosions close... alll around you..... and more.

Do you know what the game's requirements are? My computer probably won't run it...

Dude, BLACK HAWK DOWN!!!

This is currently the game for us at our LAN nights, but it has a sick single player too.

If you liked Halo for SP, get the following:

System Shock 2
Deus Ex 1
Deus Ex 2 (lesser than the first)
Half Life
Rainbow Six series (specifically Raven Shield, my god get Raven Shield).

RTCW is fun, as is Quake 2 for SP. Doom 3 and Half Life 2 are on the way out and they look ungodly incredible. I'll prolly post some more tommorrow if you want em.

Oh yeah just scrolled up some, No One Lives Forever is freakin awesome too!

how is it humanly possible to not be interested in Multiplayer?

After the game is done.. poof.. thats it, no more reason to play.

Multiplayer = instant replay value, and lots of fun, especially on Halo.

Halo's a great FPS, except that it's really not very innovative at all. It's just MS imitating Goldeneye/Perfect Dark.

I mean, put a pretentious religiously related name on an FPS with solid multiplayer modes, flashy graphics, and aliens, and you have pretty much every other FPS out there in your game. THe genres that done to death.

My favorite is either Goldeneye or DOOM...or maybe just Wolfenstein 3D. There's something about killing nazis....

Check the sig.

If you like an OLD SKOOL FPS challenge.. that is the precursor (both engine and story wise)....

Marathon Series. Only M2 was ported to PC, pick it up at bungie's website.

It's a very "cerebral" shooter. It's not all run into a room and blast, blast, blast. There's a lot of tactics, keeping the BOBs alive and the story is deep. REALLY deep. You can pick up on tons of halo stuff in it. (such as references to cortana, amongst others) and a lot of H.P. Lovecraft, medieval text and stuff.

The multiplayer, IMHO is the best for ANY FPS, EVER. I know you're not into that, but it's a plus.

The game is about 30 levels long and a MONSTER challenge. Even if you're GOOD at it, it's still very challenging, but not overly so. It won't frustrate you in the "I'm a rat in a maze." sense.

It's dirt cheap, now too.

Highly reccomended.

Half Life is the best single-player PC FPS. Crap ending, but freakin' awesome game.

Christ how could I have left out Call of Duty.

Single Player FPS GOLD!

Seriously, if you want a seriously good WW2 FPS - get call of duty.

Beat me to it (as I thought you would). One of the best series of games ever made. Halo = Marathon 4 (although its more of a prequal). The Marathon trilogy, as well as some of the total conversions, are reason enough alone to own a Macintosh. One of, if not, the best FPS games ever made (especially back when they were first released). I strongly recommend anyone who plays Marathon (on the Mac or M2 on the PC) to get Aleph One.

I've been playing Marathon since M2 was released back in 1995 and I've been a fan ever since. Those who have played Marathon will enjoy Halo so much more, and vice-versa.
