Weird watching people die like that.

It's even more strange to think what those on the ground were fighting to preserve. Sad, really. They were lied to and manipulated all of their lives with nothing to show for it and end up shredded by a helicopter on some dirt road in the middle of nowhere.

Could say the same for the US troops in Iraq.

Anyway, damn I've never seen what 30mm cannon fire can do. I knew it was big an powerful but shit.

You know, before downloading that clip on Dial-Up, I thought I'd be all "Fuck Yeah, Ride Em' Cowboy!" and use this...

:buttrock:

...instead I suddenly feel depressed. I've never seen a person literally blown up with a 30mm HMG before, those dudes never had a chance. Street Fighting with buildings for cover man vs. man with small arms is one thing, THAT was just a turkey shoot.

:oh_no:

Yes, it's quite sad...

Watching it, it's like I'm sitting there moving around with the mouse on the computer and pointing at stuff and clicking on them.

Big deal, you guys seem to forget that this is a war. When you are at war people die, that is why it's called a war. These four men chose to be Iraqi rebels, therefore they chose to be decimated to pieces by the United States Apache helicopter. When you are at war, compassion is something only reserved for your comrades. I am surprised by MD's post, I would of expected a different response from a person who thinks the way he does. There is no reason to feel depressed MD, this is the harsh reality of life.

I know man... it's just I think about your post in the warroom about a future revolution here, and it sickens me to think it might be our own AH-64 Gunships blowing us to bits someday. I mean yeah, guys in "Hunter Squads" armed with .50 Caliber Sniper Rifles sent to take out Helos is one thing, well hidden between buildings or in a Jungle/Mountain terrian... but out in the open vastness of a desert? It's war, and since they're against us, then BOOYAKAH! They got it served no doubt. ---I just think it sucks when the reality of a possible future war within (and it could happen, not saying it will)... it's kind of hard to win against shit like that. They did their duty, and we did ours in that clip... doesn't mean I don't pity those poor lousy bastids though. **On a lighter note, at least now I know what an ATM-09 SCOPEDOG from VOTOMS with a GAT-22 30mm HMG would do to a human being in the real world, along with some light armored vehicles. :)

I actually seen this video on the news at noon a few days after christmas.
I was quite shocked they showed it on the news. Sure its not really detailed or anything, but you know its people being shot and you know all that white shit everywhere afterwards is blood and ity bity pieces of human all over the ground.

You're right, it was really graphic. I'm surprised it was on the news as well.

The part at the end, where the last Iraqi rolls out from under the truck and collapses before being shot was especially disturbing.

It looks to me that the second guy who got killed was waving a flag as if to say "I surrender" or something. Hard to see clearly though.

At the start of the clip, it sounds like there is gunfire (coming from the Apache presumably) yet the Iraqis are calmly walking around.

It isn't until the 30mm cannon opens up that they duck for cover.

I wonder if they were unaware of the Apache at the beginning...

I'm really glad I saw that video. It illustrated the sad reality of war. I'd bet that second guy, seeing the first one vaporized, was probably surrendering -but "probable" isn't something you rely on in a battlefield situation. I really felt bad for the wounded guy, it was weird to actually "feel better" once they finished him off.

Its numbing because there's a lot of conflicting opinions that should (rightfully) come up in those situations. Of course, we have an easier time with since we know its already happened. I have no opinion other than its what war does.

I'm actually taking a "debut" class at the law school called "Use of Force" where we'll be studying the philosophy of declaring war/conflict/POW treatment/etc (taught by a former Israeli Soldier turned law prof, he's already told us to be ready for in class arguement) -if we have any time we may study "in conflict" rules of law (like rules of engagement) which were very clearly at play in that video.

I can understand why some who see this footage find it disturbing. I personally, put myself in the pilot's place. All I see in this footage is soldier doing his duty and protecting himself, and I would have done the same.

The act of killing in today's modern world has become very impersonal. In the clip we never see the enemies face and the life leaving his body. We just see some highlighted blobs get shredded, hit the ground, and not move. It is just like a video game, no attachment what so ever. Its come across my mind when I use to targer shoot with AR15/M16 and the targets in person were actually quite big, the size of a person, but just little black dots at 300+ yards. I believe I could easily kill an enemy from 300+ yards away and really feel no remorse. Now if I had to kill and enemy with my bare hands and watch him die, I don't know if I could handle that.

The fuckin guy was wounded and they wasted him. WTF is that!?!!

It's called ..... war.

edit: I guess I'm being a little harsh, but these are the same mother fuckers that walk into hordes of people and blow themselves up. As a human being, it's sort of sickening to see another human being blown apart like that. But when I think about what these guys were probably planning, it makes it a lot easier to look at them as monsters. The rules of engagement during wartime are quite different than arresting a crackhead or something like that. I think that's probably a textbook example of "neutralizing the threat".

I'll be honest, I watched it about 10 times, too. It's sick, sad, strange. Poor bastards. But then, what were they going to do? What have they done? Who did they kill already? A job's a job and war is hell.

I agree with you Spike..that's the way I looked at it..it's jusy so surreal..

I was looking at it in my own perspective, trying to see what was going on..matching it with the story told..

That could be any of us in that Apache helicopter..

What would we do..?

Rule #1 of Warfare.

If someone has a VERY large gun pointed at you, you really shouldn't try to be hostile.

Rule #2 of Warfare.

Should you defy Rule #1, make sure your next of kin have a spare sponge, spatula and jar to pick up your remains.

I didn't really find it very disturbing but what kinda got me was that last kill. The guy rolls from below the tank and crawls before collapsing. The soldier waits a little, shoots and then instantly the viewfinder moves away scanning for more kills. No remorse whatsoever, guess it does get easier the more you do it.
