Anyone check this out yet?
Tempest 2000 creator Jeff Minter, who is now in development with the psychedelic music-shooter Unity for GameCube, recently released updated screenshots of the game in motion. Minter himself photographed the unique project as it ran on a television, which is why the screens are not as high quality as they could be.

check out the screens as well.
looking sweet.
:buttrock:

I just hope the final product is superb.
Anyone else excited about this game?

No kidding... I bought a Jag back in the day (the year before it died off)..... $150 Just to play Tempest 2000, and Alien Vs Predator.

I still have the jag. I still play both games as well.
Tempest 2000 on the jag is still the best version too. I have the saturn version..... and the sound just isn't there. Its remixed..etc.

The ps one is pretty good, but he developed it WELL for the Jag.

I sure hope this is a 2004 release, I cannot wait much longer. I've been reading about this game for about 1 year now.
I just hope my personal hype is not disappointed. I try to not get excited about things anymore .... like releases new releases of old games.

But I will be buying this 1st day.. I know that for sure.

I have Tempest 2000 (but no Jag anymore) and of course Tempest X3 for PSX, very cool version specially with the acid f/x turned on...

Ever since I've first played Gridrunner and Attack of the Mutant Camels on VC=20 and C=64, I am a fan of Jeff. He's one of the last one-man shows in VG history who gives two shits about the rest of the biz and just does his own thang. Mad props for that, man.

Yeah, I hope it comes out this year - chances are good IMO.

Man, I'm so excited about Unity, it looks to be another great game by Jeff Minter.

And did anybody buy a Nuon just so they could play Tempest 3000? ;)

I love Tempest 2000... I didn't really care that it was the only worthwhile game on the Jaguar for a long long time (and to be honest, nothing really beats it on the system). Tempest X on the PSX is different, but still good, in fact, you can unlock Tempest 2000 on it if you get the high score and input the right initials! Very cool. Never did get the Saturn rev and didn't see the need with Jaguar and the PSX rev.

IIRC, the initials where WIF or WHIF, but you need to beat the hiscore which is 5 mil (or 500,000? don't remember), while you only get about 2k to 10k for each level, not counting the bonus levels.

You aren't kidding! I'm kinda having a bitch of a time trying to find one over the Internet! I'll keep my eye out for one and tell you if I find one. Until then, the search continues to find Nuon compatible DVD players!

I don't know that much about Minter, but I heard he likes to make games for the underdog systems, hence his choice to work on the GameCube.

Anyway, I played a bit of Tempest 2000 and I thought it was a cool game (awesome music, classic gameplay with a twist)

I hope this game turns out to be a classic.

My exact thoughts. Compared to similar games (Frequency, N20, Rez) this looks visually boring.

The fact that Juanita/Kiteless by Underworld was playing during one of the demonstrations of the game is something to look forward to however.

Do you mean the Tempest X on PSX? It was a port done not by Minter, but Interplay (i think) bought the rights to it and someone ported it to the Saturn/PSX. I remember reading Minter's dissatisfaction of the port (or enhancement). Not sure if he ever realized that Tempest 2000 was hidden in PSX (but I can't vouch how authentic that is compared to the Jag's).

technicalities

†B†V†

Well, this technicality is important tho, because Minter never intended Tempest to be on the PSX or Saturn. He developed the game for Jaguar, and had nothing to do with the ports thereafter. In fact, he was asked what his involvement was and his response, to paraphase, was zilch, nada, NOTHING.

It was a business decision by Atari to sell the game rights to Interplay on Saturn/PSX.... negating really any need for the Jaguar version (to most people).

That jag version is the best too.... it has the best sound..... framerate..etc.

I kid you not... you need to play them side by side... the music in the jag version kicks the crap out of the saturn version... and not 100% sure about the psx version.

And... Jaguar music beating saturn music.... thats an oddity. It just goes to show you that the Jag could do good games : )

If I remember correctly, and it has been a while, Jeff said that the ports are far easier than the Jaguar version, they dumbed down the AI, and that was the main reason he was unhappy with it. I think it was also ported to the PC.

Still, the Jaguar version is the one to own, their is no other true version. :)
