From the Magicbox.

IGN reported that Namco is developing Ridge Racer 6 for PS2, the true sequel to Ridge Racer V. The game will have HDD support, you can download additional elements, such as the original Ridge Racer with improved graphics.

Let us hope it is true.

Hell yeah. Can't wait for this.

This is one of the best arcade style (drifting etc.) racing game IMO.

I'm not sure many RR fans will be happy to hear this after the disappointment they had with the last RR game. I'm not a huge RR fan but after giving Evolution a spin, I didn't really care about it.

Looks like I may be getting another PS2 then. Between this game and Ace Combat 5, I definitely won't be able to wait for PS3 to play them.

I'm not sure many RR fans were of dumb enough intelligence to figure that R: Racing Evolution was direct sequel to Ridge Racer V, when in fact the developers stated numerous times that it wasn't.

I am, also, in a word, excited.

RRR was okay... I'd say it was more of an eye candy than a deep racing game.... (specially those Namco racing babes...)

R: Racing Evolution wasn't a sequal to any Ridge Racer game, it was more of a spin off if anything. It wasn't that great, but it wasn't that bad either. I found a lot of cool elements that I enjoyed. The pit crew comments, drivers becoming more tense, as well as the L and R button function in the Gamecube version. I wonder how they did that with the PS2 version. It wasn't the perfect arcade/sim hybrid, but with some work it could be quite good. Namco has recently put a patent on the title R: Racing Rivals I believe.

Perhaps this is Namco's way of pulling a Dallas-style 'it was all a bad, bad dream' spin after their ill-fated attempt to reinvent the franchise. Calling it 'not part of the series' sounds more like a big bet-hedge to me. Oh well. Let's not forget that this game WAS called 'New Ridge Racer' or 'RR6' at E3 2002.

Anyway, I want the new game, and hope it kicks proper ass.

It may have been originally planned as RR6, but change is change. Keep in mind when they called it RR6 there wasn't much to go on about the game. Once it was fleshed out and they decided to try something a bit different it came to be R: Racing Evolution, which is a decent game in it's own right if people would stop trying to think of it as Ridge Racer. Same people behind it, different concept all together.

I can't wait...I had also heard that some of the HDD features would be that you can get the original RR on your PS2 hard drive to play:D

I'm going to be importing this one for sure...

Not to play devil's advocate, but it seems awfully strange that Ridge Racer 6 is almost done and completed and will be out before the end of the year. Almost seems like they took RRR and changed out some stuff. I have a hard time believing that were working on two titles at the same time in the same franchise.

I don't know about this one. To me it sounds like Namco covering their A##.
