I just saw some of those new TF toys where I work. They look pretty tight--the Autobots actually have "pairs" that can combine, like Ironhide and Jetfire or Hot Shot and Inferno, and Starscream has parts that can form a super weapon.

Also, I've seen pics of Prime; he seems to be five robots in one, including the 18-wheeler. :D

Cool but uhhh... where's your energon bit (it's in your title so I one figures it would be somewhere in the body of your post)

:emb:

Anyway, I think energon is another of the cool little things about the TF universe. Their look, name... everything about it is ace.
The glow in the cartoon is excellent too. Always reminded me of Legos where the glass was transparent red like for the SPACE guys

Sorry. Transformers Energon is the name of the toyline. The plot is apparently that the Decepticons made a Faustian bargain with Unicron, and now they got really powerful and are trying to get enough Energon to fully revive him. To stop them, the Autobots have something called a "Spark of Unification" or something that allows them to join up. It's sort of interesting that not only do they join together, but each pair joins up in two different ways.

yeah I was at walmart yesterday and saw prime.

uber-gay.

Sorry but these new toylines, (except for unicron's toy) are total crap.

I like the reissues, the masterpiece editions, and the super-ultra-maxi-freakin cool version of Prime that's coming out soon. (like 100 bucks!)

But these latest toys are retarded.

edit: found some pics of Gay Prime.

I have to agree with the person above, I think the Armada and Energon lines suck pretty hard. I enjoy the re-issues of course, and I'm in love with the Alternators line (make a fucking show out of those masterpieces). They look less and less like actual cars and more like some freakish adaption in the newer shows. The whole mini-con thing was pretty crappy too if you ask me. I don't see why we just can't get some bad ass robots that look like cars to beat the shit out of eachother anymore. They have to try to make it all cheesy and shit. I will go back and watch the old series on DVD and it still kicks the fuck out of any of the shit they have put on the air recently.

The toys keep getting closer and closer looking to later G1 Japanese releases from Victory and such, especially the new Prime. Personally I like the look of the new Scorponok, and a couple others look ok also. I used to be a hardcore Transformer collector (around 400 figures), until I sold them to buy my neo stuff. The only stuff I have now is Unicron, Brave Maximus, and Alternaters Smokescreen. The thing that a lot of people don't understand is that lines like Armada and Energon have been designed for a younger demographic that past lines. They're made easier to transform and focus on gimmicks. That's why the older audience is getting reissues and Alternaters. But given what they're aiming for they've come up with some creative stuff.

TF Energon = Crap.
TF Armada = Crap.

They need to make a series with animation and a story on par with the movie. Something for those of us who've been with it since '84. G1 was goofy at times, but no where near as bad as the new ones. Feh.

i actually picked up some of the energon toys, not too shabby as far as tf toys go, plus the fact that you can put them together and make them even more powerful is cool. but they've yet to rival the generation 2 figures of my youth.

The standalonre prime looks awful, gotta say i like the combined version, even if it isa a bit more Gestalt than convoy.

Energon series has gotta better Armada, shouldn't be too bad if they romove the moral message....

I say bring back Pretendeeerrrrs , Hawk was just too cool;)
