found this for just 25p, any idea on the value on one of these? thank you

obviously the cart label has a bit of damage, probably because it's been unboxed for the last 12 years

oddly it weighs a ton compared to other master system carts, at least 4 times the weight of any other cart

Value is all subjective. It is only worth what some rabid collector wants to pay. Now... What I would be interested in is seeing the insides of that cart. Can it be opened without damaging it like other Master Systems carts?

The most important thing is if the game is any different to the final release. If it is then it will be of real value to a collector.

Did you plug it in a Master System? What kind of game showed up?

It's labelled Rambo III... Should be Sylvester's game after all!!! :p

I've seen 2 proto carts too. Double Hawk and Dead Angle for what I can remember.

i haven't got a master system handy to test it, i'll have to see if i can get one of ebay or borrow a friends to test it.

apparently , these carts use EEPROMS which explains the weight difference, sadly it also means they may have wiped themselves clean by now.

For what it's worth, the Japanese on the IC2 chip reads:

ƒ‰ƒ“ƒz''

Rambo

Kind of a no-brainer, really, but there you go.

Yep those EPROMS are called 'Cerdips'. They're bodies are literally made of ceramic, which were commonly used for prototyping because the die is exposed through the window.

They are erased by being subjected to strong UV light for > 10-15 minutes with an EPROM eraser. I would however be surprised if they still work but it is possible. And these IC's shouldn't be susceptible to 'bit rot'.

BTW EEPROM stands for Electronically Erasable Programmable
Read Only Memory, and these chips are not them :)

Sort of on topic, a friend of mine who is quite the Lynx nut has a working demo of Blue Lightening on Cerdip EPROM that fits in any ordinary Lynx. He obtained it from a sales rep when he worked at EB a long time ago.

Looks like I got owned... When I posted that only 1 pic had loaded and I could only read "sample", that's why I was wondering. :multi_co:

Yeah I'll give you $2 shipped.

Actually I have no idea what something like that would be worth. But I would love to have it. I search for prototypes all the time on ebay but usually just come up with items that say prototype but are really just demo carts.
