It looks like a new idea, but the only thing I wasn't too fond of was the fact that the batteries for the controller only last for five hours. That's not a long time considering that everyone who bys the game for it will want to play it for longer than that. You have to shell out the money for the over-the-top designed controller and it dies in an evening or two.

There's already an arcade game from Konami has that uses the same type of technology in a Samurai game. The local arcade had it, though I refused to pay $1 to play with a gimmick. Interesting idea, but if it's nothing but a useless gimmick, then fuck it.

yep. it's a rip off of the game "Tsurugi: The Sword".

here's a flyer for the Tusurgi machine: link

i've seen it in the arcade before aswell... but yeah, $1 to play inspired me to just watch others play and use the $1 for something else.. then again, even games that are 50cents to play are a turn off for me.

Collecting for profit tip #1.

Buy this, it's probably amazingly uncommon, gimmicky and the batteries don't last.

Pick it up, it'll be worth twice that in about 2 years.

Actually, there was a VR game back in the early 90s that had a swords & sorcery theme which used a virtual sword.

So I guess all later games ripped that one. ;)

I remember one of my students telling me that a fishing-rod controller (designed for fishing simulation games) was compatible with the Dreamcast version of Soul Calibur. I never tried it out though, so I can't verify this.

It is the official fishing rod controller used for Sega's fishing titles.... However, you can (but not very efficiently) use it to play Soul Calibur, I read it in a magazine where someone finished SC on the hardest lvl of difficulty without losing a round using the fishing controller... the ultimate in geekiness. :)

Yeah, but lets see that same guy try and get the powerglove to do anything useful. God what a waste of a "big-ticket" Christmas present... Grrr.

A friend in Japan picked up the first pressing of the Dreamcast edition of Guilty Gear X (w/the CD-Single) for me when it came out. While waiting for me to come to Japan on vacation to collect it, he and a co-worker tried it out. Problem was his friend only had one DC pad controller and a fishing controller -- laughing, my friend remarked that he got stuck with the rod'n'reel and got his ass kicked by his friend the whole time.

Personally, I'm interested in the katana controller (I've got more than enough rechargeable AA batteries between the recharger kits for my NGPC and my digital camera), but I haven't been too keen on the Onimusha series. Since there'll be at least one or two more games for the Tekki / Steel Battalion controller (besides Tekki 2), I'm hopeful that CAPCOM might support the katana controller with at least a few more compatible games (sure would be nice to see a weapons-based one-on-one fighter for the thing). Maybe we could at least see a PS2 release of Tsurugi: The Sword?

Hell yes.

Stupid King Koopa's TV show and the Wizard made everyone think it was fun (anyone remember that live action character? -no it wasn't the SMB Super Show)
