Portable DVD player cheap at Circuit City

Finally found a price point on these things that I thought was worth it. This one is on sale right now, it's a great deal. Decent size screen, it comes with car AC, regular AC and rechargeable battery pack, also it has audio/video cables with it and a remote. It's hard to find a portable this cheap that comes with all these accessories, and this model is actually rated pretty well both at Circuit City and at Amazon.com.

Now I can watch DVD's at work yay!

Your best bet is to search the bay. look for toshibas SDP-1000

Yeah, I feel pretty comfortable with this because it was rated pretty high both at Circuit City and Amazon.com out of 100's of reviews. I would like to get a toshiba but the only ones I could find from them were over $400 thats way too much.

This company Initial had another model with a 7" screen that got horrible ratings, apparently the screen conks out fast on those, but this 5.8" screen I got supposedly is very much more reliable.

A freind of mine bought one for $150 at Wal-Mart.
Personally I would just buy one of those 7" screens for video games and hook it up to my very un portable Xbox or Playstation 2. That way I could also take my Gamecube or Neo-Geo around to play games.

Just buy a Laptop with a DVD drive. Its basically a 14-15 inch portable DVD player for $1000 and a free computer along with it :eek_2:

People, it was like $150. Who cares if it dies in 15-18 months, if you use it for that time you more than got your money out of it... $500-1000 solutions are fine, but remember, no matter what you buy you will probably be looking to replace it in 2 years... I'd rather spend $150 for it,

Well, I have just seen a boatload of those cheapies get returned defective while working in the A/V industry.
If you get it, do your self a BIG favor and get the extended product porformance plan (extended warranty). You have been warned.

I guess your right Orpheus does have a good point. I bought my first DVD player back in '97 when they were just comming out and it still works like a charm. Many people that I have known over the years have purchased the cheaper ones and have died with in a few months.

yeah, I am basically the portable DVD player whore

I love those things. they were one of the last things that i loved selling when I was at circuit city.
Toshiba makes the best ones:
I own the SDP-1000, which came out about four years ago(I won't even mention the price it reyailed for). That model along with thier current SDP-2500 are probably the best 2 portables ever released.

That's good to know Orpheus, that Toshiba makes good stuff.

So you don't have to use a Laptop with a DVD drive to reliably watch DVD's on the go huh?

I will never get anything Toshiba, especially after the big screen we got broke twice in less then 27 months.

Dude, don't go on that. There are horror stories like that for EVERY BRAND of electronics (with the exception of most high end gear). Yours is just the result of a cookie cutter industry with a throw away mentality, and the workmanship shows for the most part.
Besides, Toshiba is one of the top three in CRT rear projection sets aong with MItsu and Pioneer.

I agree with Mitch here. The 1000 was awesome, though the screen was a bit small. And now the 2500 is great. That's what I use now. If your looking for something cheaper then grab a 1000 off e-bay. All depends on how much you care about image quality in the end. Peace out.

I had one and it broke

I should have known when I saw all of the display models broken also (intial has another mode model which was broken down too).

Look for the Magnavox portable DVD player (I forget the model number), my cousin bought it for 175 (a tad more expensive) and it kicks this piece of shit, soon to be paper weight, in the ass!

anywhere from 2-3 hours. 2 1/2 on average.
You use more juice the more you futz with the controls, navigate through menus and keep the backlight on the brightest setting.
Replacement batteries run from the low hundred dollar range to the high one hundred dollar range.
There is also a very nice panasonic model that i can recomend as well should you need the model #.

Heya Mitch 'ol boy

Well I have only used it once since i got it but it is really nice. The screen is sharp and the sound is pretty good too. It's a nice setup. Buy.com keeps throwing it in the 24-hour sales lately. May want to watch out for one there.
