Does anyone remember this game. It ran on the 486 I think.

I downloaded the demo but it will not install, I get a runtime error. Is this because it is an old game and will not run or is the file corrupted?

Are you running XP? You may want to try compatibility mode for it if so. I believe it was one of the games to utilize the Doom engine, and Doom CAN work on an XP machine, so I don't see any reason why you couldn't get this to run.

If you're running a Win98 machine, why not trying to boot into DOS mode and see what happens?

YEah Im running XP, how do I start compatibality mode?
Just locate the executable on your hard drive (probably in something like C:\Rise or something, perhaps C:\Apogee?). Once you find it, right click it and it gives you an option for "compatability mode" and choose something like "run as Windows 95" or 98. Make sure it's a .exe and not a .bat. Running it on the .bat file will only cause it to run on the .bat file, not the EXE that the .bat calls upon. God, DOS memories flooding back... :D

Here is a website that describes getting compatability mode started.

My top instructions are from memory, so it may be a little off. If you can't figure it out, try that website's instructions (direct from MS).

Let me know if it works or not. If not, I'll d/l it tomorrow and see if I can get it to work. I always love the challenge of getting old software to run in XP. :D

Hope it works for you.

Whoa, I didn't even know about this "compatibility mode" in XP. Obviously I've had some problems running some DOS stuff and figured there was no way for them to work... I'll have to give this a try. I dunno if something like this would work because I remember some pure DOS games needing me to reboot into DOS mode just to be able to play them.

And by the way, Rise of the Triad ROCKED! Seriously, everyone hated on it because it wasn't as good as Doom but I thought it was hella fun. It's one of the few shareware games I actually paid money for to register.

Rise of the Triad... is that the old PC game that got ported to SEGA CD that's a Cyberpunk Adventure?

"A scantily clad woman danced on a table not too far off..."

If so then yeah... I fookin' loved that game. Not as good as SNATCHER but it's alright.

That game fucking rules. I love sneaking up on those guys and having them on their knees saying "don't shoot!" then wasting them.

I believe that your thinking of Rise of the Dragon. ROTT is a FPS that came out for the PC in the mid 90s. The jump pads were cool and this game ruled in multiplayer.

if you can t get it to work then try
1) vdmsound 2 (don t forget to download and install the loader ! then use the "use vdmsound" with a music note next to it in the contextual menu when you right click on the game)
2) dosbox 0.60 (be sure to setup the dosbox.cfg the right way for game specs (no ems, etc))
3) virtual PC and install your old dos on it :)
4) remove the dust from your old mid 90's pc and play on it :P

there are verry few games that don t work with either of these methods -not counting the 4th one ^^- .

LOL I remember seeing this game. Never played it though... but it came out during the "DooM Golden Age" ('93-'95)

IIRC it's the first FPS to use "two guns at once" (one in each hand)

There were other funky Doom clones that time too. One called like Fortress or something... has to do with mad doctor and his weird green mutant samurai sword wielding frogs...

I've gotten old classic Sierra text adventures to work in compat mode, along with most all of their curosr driven adventures, so it wouldn't surprise me if most everything worked. I'm not talking about the Windows 3.11 ports and shit, I'm talking STRAIGHT DOS games in XP. If it worked in W95 and it was a DOS game, more than likely you can get it to work in XP with compat mode.

On a side note, if anyone knows how to get Carmageddon 2 to work in XP, I'd LOVE to find out. I've tried everything under the sun, but no matter how you start it up, it always comes up and says "cannot run in NT environment" or some shit. I've thought about putting a dual boot DOS 6.22/Win98 box together, JUST for the games that don't work in XP...

The fact that somebody brought this topic up is a total shock to me. And I thought most people forgot this game forever. Man, I'm glad there are still people left who remembers Rise of the Triad. I loved the game, but I never owned it myself. I don't even know where to look to find the game, either. That's a game I would love to try to find again. It was all about the cool Jump Pads and the double handguns. It was bouncy fun. :) To a certain degree, it's still unique in that regard. Well, except for when you play Unreal Tournament with mutators on for very high jumping. But for single play, it's still kind of unique.

Jesus fucking CHRIST this game was awesome. WAY before its time with the craziness and the weapon types. I loved the Christmas remix songs you had to use cheats for in order to hear.

I still remember the code for getting dual pistols was 'johnwoo'.

Anyone know how to get the full version of this game anymore? I had it spread across like 6-7 diskettes or something a long time ago but I've since lost them.

I have two words to say about this game...

"LUDICROUS GIBS!" :D

Also, the God Mode was awesome. It wasn't just an invincibility power-up; it also had an unstoppable attack that would seek and destroy anybody it touched.

Also, the bonuses were a nice touch in the game. I especially enjoyed how completing the level with a tiny sliver of health left would give you 100% health for the next level.

Oh yeah I remember that game, it was very impressive at the time. I don't remember if I had the full version or not, but I would say know. That game was bloody as heck if I remember correctly. :)

Thanks for the link. Will this run decently in compatability mode in XP?
I can't answer that. I don't own the game and I haven't had time to download the demo to try it out. My guess, since it's a Doom engine game, is that it should run fine in compat mode. I'll try it out later and let everyone know, unless someone posts it first.
