Don't own an AE86, but maybe this site will help you out some?

Do a quick search on google and see if there are any other pages out there. I'm sure there is, and you're more likely to get a good answer from an AE86 forum (if such a thing exists).

Maybe an older Corolla forum? (calling an AE86 a Corolla to an owner can be like commiting suicide)

3 grand? That is a rip off. I see them go for 800-1200 all the time. How many miles does it have?

Which RX-7? I prefer the third generation. Good rotary action. :)

I know for sure you should recognize the second and third generation ones. I'm pretty sure they were mentioned as FC and FD respectively in Initial D.

MR2 Turbos are nice.

RX-7's are nice but not reliable unless you get the 2nd generation. The FD (1990+) are to hard to maintain and you will have to replace the engine atleast once during ownership, guranteed. The turbo rotary is nice, but not to reliable plus most FD's are atleast 9k+ Great car but not for the everyday driver and especially not for someone our age with limited money for repairs etc.. (If you do get the older RX7 be sure to read about them a bit before you buy it, you need to change the oil much more often etc. since rotary engines use alot more oil up.

I don't know much about Celicas so I shouldnt comment there.

I wouldn't get a 300zx since the NA versions are kind of weak. It would be hard to even find a NA version tha tis 1990 for $5000 unless it had alot of miles on it.

Personally I would go with the MR2 since you can get a turbo for cheap and it's pretty reliable. The FC is also a good choice if you know what your doing. That Corolla has some pretty low miles on it though. You telling me that he is a ricer though kind of scares me, mainly because the car has probably been driven hard day after day.

Just remember, the AE86 isn't like it is in Initial D. Yes it is one of the best drift cars there is but if you want to race or accelerate fast it isn't going to happen without tons of mods. Your not going to be pulling on any Skyline GTR33's like in the show. If you want a flat out drift car with a little more speed go with the 240sx s13, or s14. Save up a few thousand and you can easily drop a sr20DET in there and gain some quick horses, or better yet a RB(GTR 33 Engine) for a little more. It has been done before.

yeah the 300zx's were a littoe over, but i've seen some 1990 models that were at 5 grand on ebay. what about an 85 300zx, easy to maintain?

2nd gen is FC 3rd is FD.
I would love an FD but I cant decide between that and a Supra or 300zxTT. More likely the FD or Supra.

Either way you cant go wrong with a nice FC, of course there is the whole rotary thing but its worth it imo.

FC, a little slammed though :emb:

Easy as hell, plus you can put the RB engine in there with some work. One of the employees at Nissan of Japan has a older Z with a Skyline engine in it, it's pretty cool. Also, another famous swap for the Z is the small block swap, if you want to change to the dark side. Just do yourself a favor and don't settle for anything but manual. I payed 4k for my Z, but it only had 80k miles on it, mint interior, and manual trans. Make sure you find one that isn't a trash heap. ;)

The RB swap needs a lot of swaps and replacement to be done right .

Not worth it for someone on any kind of budget.

If you ask me I would go with an older 240sx and do a 180sx conversion.

And to NeoFight--go with a Supra if you can afford it.

Supra is a great car.

FD and 300zx TT are about the same speed stock for stock. The FD handles better but the 300zx is more reliable and doesn't eat up gas like a Viper, ala FD.

S13 is just the 240sx before the 95 on on 240sx's. The 180sx never came here.

Don't buy into the hype of owning an 86 Trueno/Corolla GTS unless your going to be using it as a daily driver/drift car. The car is a DOHC 1.6l engine making approximately 120-130hp. Everybody else has made some great suggestions on what cars to get like FC's, FD's, S13's. One good suggestion I have is get yourself an older model Miata, preferably the 1.8L model if you can which are more reliable and probably not going to have parts falling off unlike an 18 yr. old car. The handling for them is astonishing even when its stock. All you need to do is mod the suspension and transmission a bit and your set.

Even if you do buy the 86 and it looks like mint, look for any rust that may be on the car, especially around the areas where the hatch is and also around the windows. There is also club4ag.com on which you can check out people who own 86's.

ha, yeah.

any of you guys suggest any cheap hondas? or are they all shit? civis?

They are good as daily drivers but not much else, unless you can find a REAL Civic Si and not a normal Civic hatch that claims to have the VTEC engine or even if the engine was swapped. Just make sure that when you buy one, make sure to rip off all the stickers off it and replace the muffler. I think you should get the Integra instead, I think they made a model where it was DOHC but didn't have the VTEC.

If your looking to drift in a Honda, get an S2000 or an NSX since those are the only two that are RWD.

Unless you can get a Integra Type R (It has LSD, and a 195HP engine stock w/all the goodies) dont go the Honda/Acura route. Great daily drivers though. Really, I despise civics and other honda's. Every time I see a Civic blazing down the road all riced up thinking he is fast I laugh to myself and think what a idiot. Just my two cents. Honda is the DARKSIDE. LOL.
