My copy of Metroid Prime has been falling victim to the glitches in the game alot lately, freezing up at the most annoying times. Since I love the game though, I thought I would go buy a new copy, perhaps the Players Choice version. I figured it might have some of the glitches fixed. Well, I don't know if they removed all the really annoying ones, but they did remove some things that make sequence breaking and speed runs easier, which is totally lame. For example, if you are familiar with sequence breaking, you know that it is possible to get the Space Jump Boots right after landing on Tallon IV by way of "L Dashing". But they removed that glitch, if that's what you would call it.

Sequence breaking is what makes me want to keep playing this game, but the only copies of the game where they are possible are buggy. I can get a new non Players Choice copy, but what would be the point? I'd just be getting another version with the same bugs mine already has.

That's interesting, I have an original release Prime and I've NEVER had problems with it at all. Never locked up, no real glitches per se.

Sorry about your luck...

Yeah, the other day when I was playing my roommate's TimeSplitters 2 (it was used) on GCN I saw something I never saw before! A disc read error! I think it was because it was scratched, but when you see a disc read error it's just white print at the bottom of the screen saying the disc could not be read. Kinda interesting to see that for the first time.

I've seen that with a couple of games, specifically Eternal Darkness and....Metroid Prime. They're the only two GC games I've ever had a problem with, and both of them have no scratches on the bottom (and I bought MP new, original release). For whatever reason in certain areas of both games everything sometimes just locks up and I get that error message.

To be honest I chalked it up to the fact that I had my system internally modded to play JP GC games, as I've noticed that the system is quite warm when this happens (even though in some cases I've only been playing for as little as 15-30 minutes.

I wonder if anyone else here can shed light on this issue? I'm not even sure whether the issue is with the disk or the system...

I would think your hardware is the problem, not the disc
(if it is free from visable scratches / defects)

For my situation, I'm pretty sure it's the disc since I turned it over and looked sorta messed up (BIG SURPRISE, a used game that's scratched). But I'm not so sure about your situation.

If you open the GC you have ot be really careful with the fan. Moving the fan at all might risk the chance that the side of the case will rub the blades of the fan causing it not to cool the system properly. So check the fan speed to make sure it's running fast.

I've only had a problem with a couple games.

I noticed it comes from many hairline scratches and/or fingerprints.

ONce I cleaned my discs... I never got the error again.

make sure you clean your discs with something... either a cloth... some water...or whatever you use... just clean them from time to time. You'd be pretty amazed at the dirt you wipe off of them.

I've only had a problem two areas.

The first time was in the intro stage when you encounter Ridley, and twice on the elevator.

That's it though, it never happened again and I was able to enjoy the game.

That's wierd, because MP and ED are the only two games I've ever had a problem with. And I even sold the old GC that I used to play them on, they mess up on my new one as well. So I don't think it's because you modded your system. In fact, I visited the MP board at gamefaqs, and many of them said they encountered similiar glitches in Metroid Prime. Both of my games were bought new by the way, and are in mint/near mint condition. Eternal Darkness has only been played about four times, and has messed up two of those times.

yeah i have owned all 3 of the new systems before.. GC, PS2, and X-Box..

the PS2 i lost interest in and sold to a friend to get more X-Box games.. after a few months of him having the PS2 it started freezing at random points in games and he had to reboot to fix it.. until eventually the PS2 just stopped working completely.

the first GC system i had though i never had any problems with and again, ended up selling it to get more X-Box games.

then the X-Box.. got it on launch day and within less then a year it started randomly freezing on games just as the PS2 did for my friend. luckily though it didn't do it nearly as much as the PS2 did but then i thought 'ah to hell with it' and decided to get rid of the X-Box.

anyway.. not too long ago i got a GC again.. but i didn't seem to have much interest in it and really only kept it for my nephew to play. one day i put a game on for him and then yeah.. it gave me that 'disc read error' msg.. i was thinking to myself "wtf!? what's wrong with these new systems!?".. although it turned out that happened because my nephew had touched the game disc and left smudges on it. cleaned it off and then it worked fine again.

but yeah.. with these problems from the new systems.. as major or minor as they may be.. i doubt i'll ever buy any of them again.

Thats what happens when you have a laser reader.

any obstructions..... or smears that bend the light wrong screws the game up. Think of what it reads through the smears lol :)

I've never ever seen Metroid PRime glitch. I've seen ED glitch during movie playback though, but very rarely.

Try cleaning your disc and if it has any scratches use a scratch fix on it.

The thing is, the disc is just fine. Every glitch I've encountered, I have seen on a friends copy, or read about on the MP message board at GameFAQs.

What is the ED glitch?

I've played this game thoroughly and I've never encountered a single problem.

I've had to have beaten this game at the least 10 times, just because I love the story so much.

I've heard of people having loading problems on the elevators, but I've NEVER had that happen to me, and I went through it twice. What a great game.

Mine did freeze twice on elevators but that was it.

Sometimes when I play it, at no particuliar time, it will freeze and say "There is an error, please consult your Nintendo Gamecube manual" or something like that.
