Someone just asked me this question, and for the first time, I realized I didn't know.

What does "SNK" actually stand for?

Shin Nihon Kikaku(I've seen this last word spelled about 40 different ways).

New Japan Project.

Shin Nihon Kikaku which I believe means something along the lines of "New Japan Project"

You got it right though. It translates to New Japan Project, I'm pretty sure.

If I'm not mistaken, the Nihon was Nippon when they founded the company, but who can be sure.
