I PM'd riotoftheblood about this, since he made my cps2 supergun, but I figured I'd post it here in case anyone knows what the problem is.

It gives me lots of very noticable vertical scrolling lines and also makes a sorta loud humming noise when it's plugged in. Before I thought it had something to do with the system selector it was plugged into, because anything else plugged into the selector would give me a humming noise, and less noticable vertical lines. Well recently I got one of those nice system selector pros, and it when I tested the cps2, it was still doing it. While the cps2 was still plugged into the system selector, I turned on the ps2, and that was giving me a humming noise as well. So I went back to the cps2 input, and there was still a loud humming noise, even with it turned off. So I unplugged the s-video and audio from the back of the cps2 and it went away. I turned on the ps2 again without the cps2 hooked up, and everything was perfect no humming noise or vertical lines.

So in essence when the cps2 is hooked up, it messes with everything else plugged into the system selector. Now it's not that big of a problem, as I can just unplug the svid and audio from the back of the cps2 itself when I'm not playing it, but it's still really bothering me when I do play the cps2. I mean these lines are really noticable and everywhere, and the sound it makes it straight nasty.

Any help?

is there some kind of earth loop ?. If the audio is running through a hifi amp which has common ground earthed this sort of thing can occure, try disconecting the earth connection on the amp.

It sounds to me like an interfierence problem, the cps2 unit is not properly shielded or something of the sort.

Well I checked it out yesterday... and I found what the problem is, but not exactly where it is yet.

Somehow DC ground and Earth Ground have become one in the same. I haven't found where yet (not enough time), but maybe a wire has become skinned and is touching a bare part of the chassis. What seems odd to me is that I connected only the earth ground from the power cord to the chassis - without either AC/L or AC/N - and the buzzing / vertically scrolling lines are still present.

I've never seen a problem like this before and to be honest I don't really understand what is going on. Anyone have anything else to add?

Though I can't add much to the discussion, one thing I have noticed is that the JROK doesn't like to have its S-video ran into either a switch box or a home theater receiver.

If you hook it up direct to your TV you get an incredible picture. Run through a switching unit and you get these small waves in the picture.

Your mileage may vary on this, but its from my experience that its best to run the video output from the JROK direct to your set.

I thought of that, and we tried connecting the system directly to his TV (was using composite though). It was no help. It still seems odd to me that this problem ccurs even with the A/C power not even connected.

I thought it was possible that the RCA jacks mounted on the case could have came in cotact with the case itself somehow, but I disconnected the RCA cables from the A-board (which run to the jacks) and it didn't make a difference.

Wish I had more time to look at it...

Oh yeah the system works just fine if I remove the Earth ground. But I'm a little weary of leaving it this way.
