OK, to test my PC AT PSU I plugged it in and started it up. NOTHING HAPPENED! The fan didn't turn at all! Is it dead? It's been sitting around for a few years but that shouldn't kill it... Someone help me please. I have a multimeter, it's this model :http://www.radioshack.com/product.a...y_name=CTLG_011_008_002_000&product_id=22-810

What setting do I put it on and what probe do I touch where to see if it's dead or not? Any and all help is appreciated.

Well, first and check if the fuse is blown, there should be one inside the case.

then check and see if your getting any power from the output. set the meter on DC 50 volts or something low, and put the black probe to ground and the red ito the live wire.

if you dont get anything, trace all the connections back and make sure everything is physically ok.

Are you sure it's safe to open the case???

Well I just tried opening the case, the way it's designed though it won't come apart easily at all. Shoot, judging by the testing that Neo-Geo 2 walked me through, it may be screwed up :(. Anyone have ANY advice at all??? Or can help me with this on AIM?

some psu's won't start unless there is a "load" on it... Try plugging in an old hard drive or cd rom.....

OMFG! How stupid of me, I have those lying around! I'll try this soon, hook it up with a floppy, HD and CD-ROM attatched and see what happens.

Norton if this works you've saved me $20, I owe you one.

YYYYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSS!

It has a steady ~5.13V on the +5V rail. I'm gonna check the 12V rail soon (not gonna plug/unplug the probes while it's on!).

Norton... you da man!

Hmmmm... it reads 11.55V on the +12V rail... is this gonna be OK for use with MVS? MVS is pretty lenient but half a volt? Hmm...

11.55 might be ok... Once you hook it into a board, it might go up to 12....... It also depends on where you are measuring the voltage (or so I'm told).

Also, make sure to put some fuses in that bad boy....

There'll be fuses, no doubt. How many do I need? One per voltage line to the JAMMA harness? I have 2 fuse boxes so far but I can get more.

So like this:

PSU--
........|____5V------fuse----4 JAMMA Connections
........|____12V----fuse----2 JAMMA Connections

right? Sure it's OK to do it this way (multiple JAMMA connections to the same rail) and not having one rail per JAMMA connection?

yep.,....

Also be sure to put any other +5 (video encoder for instance) on the jamma side of the fuse.
