Just got a Taito Egret 29, the cab is mainly metal and the screen cover is plastic.

I'd like to paint the thing to make it look new but do not know what to use:

- first is there any way I can paint over the plastic around the screen? Its all yellow (I guess due to aging and smoking).

- Secondly can I just paint over the metal parts or do I need to scrub it before? It really just need a few touches but I guess the best would be to paint everything again to make it even.

- thirdly what kind of paint should I use.

BTW the cab has a slot that lloks like either a Yen bill slot or a card distributor - anyone knows what it is exactly?

Cab looks like this (the bill or card reader is right under the control panel) :

I think spraypaint is the best to use
you need to mask with tape the areas
you not wish to cover,

but it takes some teqnique to avoid drips.

If you would use a brush you would get
stripe patterns in the paint.

I wonder is using bleach on the plastic around the screen would have any effect..or soaking it in bleach for awhile....

Otherwise you'd have to spray paint it..
If there is no other way to get the yellow color off..
Hmmm.
I wonder if a buffer could get that to it's original white color.

I would suggest if your going to do any spray painting, don't do it within your place..

I wish I had a chance to see it...;)
Next time..

A note to harry hazard before anything: " spray paint " isnt a kind of paint. You can have acrylics, enamels, epoxy, oil, etc... they could come in tubes, spray cans, etc etc etc...

Now on to the questions:

About the metal: usually polishing it with steel wool to make sure its clean, smooth and rid of any dust particles or grease is best. You nee to use a primer to paint over metal.

To paint the plastic around the screen, you need to take it off, wash it, give it a shot of primer and then repaint it. I'd recommend using flat enamel spray paints because they give a nice finish and are durable.

If you want to paint the cab itself, I'd recommend using epoxy-based spray paint. Reason is, epoxy is VERY resistant, it's scratch-resistant, alcohol-resistant, water-resistant, rust-resistant, it's the best thing for using on cabs. I painted my CAPCOM cab "nimbus gray" with epoxy spay praint, and it not only looks awesome, but it has a nice smooth surface.

Whatever you do, just make sure to use a nice quality primer (X-Row, Krylon, etc) so the actual paint has a good surface to adhere to, making your paint job last a long long time.

I hope this helps.
