Yes, it looks like it'd do the trick.

However, you might want to go with the XRGB2+ instead. It costs about the same, but it's more geared towards gamers and has a whole lot of video options that make adjusting the picture a cinch (especially the scanline options, which are a lifesaver). Also, it accepts S-Video, component, and D-Terminal, which is very handy for some Japanese consoles.

The downside is that it had a Japanese scart socket instead of a European one, so cables wouldn't be quite as easy to get for you.

Why is it that you need to have a box inbetween the RGB signal and the VGA signal. Is it because the MVS only outputs one sync and a VGA monitor wants both horizontal and vertical sync? What is the logic inside of the box actually doing?

VGA has twice as many lines as low-rez RGB. So, the XRGB needs to buffer every line of video and spit it back out twice while adjusting the sync to match.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!! Do NOT get the XRGB2+!!!

Get the XRGB2 instead. Read the review at www.gamesx.com where Lawrence (who also got slashdotted today ^_^) states why should get the 2 instead of the 2+.

Merry Christmas or whatever by the way =)

Have you even tried a 2+? I have no idea what was wrong with Lawrence's machine, but my XRGB2+ and all others I've seen work perfectly fine and show no trace of the VGA passthrough problems he was complaining about. In fact, I really prefer it to the older model, since the extra scanline options help a lot with low-rez games.

The only downside to it is that it doesn't display Raiden Fighters properly.
