I want to get all new buttons and joysticks for my candy (not that there's anything really wrong with what's there now, but I want to do it just so it's all fresh and new), but I don't know how to take them off/out. How do I get the buttons out? The joystick out? As for the wires connected to each section... do I just pull really hard to get them off? I don't want to ruin anything. Little help?

I'm not gonna help, I just want to chime in and say I want to know the same thing. I know how to replace them (that's pretty easy, you just basically unscrew them and take off the hard plastic covering thing), I just don't know how to take off the wires. I'm afraid I'll break them.

I tore apart my control panel today and ill just tell you what people told me.

I just took the wires off with a good pull or a rocking motion if it didnt come off at first. Hold it by the plastic thing anyway, so it doesnt breakt. Then just unscrew the plastic thing and take them out.

On the joysticks unbolt them, then at the top of the rod of the stick, there is a little washer thingy holding it on, pop that off andpull your joystick out.

Thats about it.

Unbolt them? There's about six or so screws going into random spots... I don't know what to unscrew. Unscrew EVERYTHING?

Also, I can't figure out how to get the actual buttons OUT. What, exactly, is holding those little bastards in? Please help, I'm dying to mess around with my cab, but way way too afriad.

I wrote this when I first saw the thread...

Spike..
I wanted to buy a set of extra buttons and joysticks for the Candy to have as spare parts.
but,
I did some searching for them on the net,and I can't find any matches...
Luckily the set in the Candy seem hardly used..So I don't need to change them anytime soon.

I was going to take them out and clean everything...but I really would like to be able to get another set before I mess with anything..

The wires look like they will pull right off and it looks like the buttons have something on the sides to push in so they'll come out.

The control panel on my Candy cab looks like it splits..so you can get the housing out...

This control panel I have for a SCB-U4 doesn't seem to split..I have no clue how to get the housings off of this one.

Where the heck can we buy these parts..?

I just took a button out..

There is two small pieces of plastic on the sides of the buttons you have to push in..

(Providing your cab is the same as mine)

Ergle. Mine are on there REALLY REALLY tight if it is an actual friction fit.. It's making me nervous pulling on them. Might try messing with them with a screw driver or something.

Providing your buttons are like mine..

You have to push in the two triangular pieces of plastic as seen in pick near the top of the button..

Thanks for the pic, Chris. Now, how about those joysticks. What screws do I take out? All of them? I don't see how it's even staying in, to be honest!

Spike

Wait, joysticks were easy.... but I can NOT get the buttons out. I push in on the buttons, but nothing. Man I'm stupid.

I got the whole joystick unit.... the pieces that all come together (microswitches, stick, metal plate).... I can't get the actual buttons themselves out. Heck, I can't even figure the select button out, as it's different than the rest. Erm.... just how hard must I squeeze, and am I even looking at the right thing? :spock: Sorry for being dumb, but I want a project to do over Christmas, and I really want to undo this all and put it back together again!

Depending on the type of button you have, whether
they are the fat american ones or the small jap micro
switch buttons - here we go.

Fat American: First you will find a funny looking plastic
piece with wires soldered or clipped to it at the bottom
of said button - all you need to do, is take your nail or
a flat head screwdriver and pry up on the side that sticks
out the highest (you will see a little pin that pops into the
plastic piece...now slightly push it forward until it is half
way out, and there should be another pin lower than the
first that you just have to slide out...this may not make a
whole lot of sense - but it's easier than opening a paper
mcdonalds bag.

Next, once you have the wired/clipped plastic piece out -
you should see a plastic wheel that surrounds the under
side of the button...just twist it off.

Once that is off, pop out your button.

All done, now do it for every one of the buttons.

It looks JUST like chris's pic.... the select button may be like what you describe, but they are also microswitch, but held in differently. Maybe what you are telling me, I'll have to check. I want to take that one out the most since the button sticks (my last candy ALSO had a sticky select button... WTF)

Thanks again, I just want to do this by myself so when I replace them, I'll know what to do. They work just fine, but I'm picky, and want brand new, not so dirty buttons. Plus, the 2p side joystick works as if it's new, and while the 1p side works perfect, I figure why the hell not, and just replace all of them at once. Yeah, I'm strange....

Thanks for the help all. Any more info on the regular buttons? That would be great.

Spike, Which buttons do they look like?

#1:
Button%20on.off.jpg

#2:
Button%20A.jpg

#3:
601200xx_thumb.gif

#4:
5891xxl_thumb.gif

?????

If it is #1or2 then you should see from the pic that there is an area that you can press in. This little area is holding the button to the panel. When you have pressed that area in you can then pull the button out (or push, but it needs to come out through the top.

If it is #4 you need to remove the microswitch (the little box with the connectors attached to the bottem) first then unscrew the bottom plastic nut and then pull the button out. If it is #3 you do not need to remove the microswithc.

I hope that helps.

Unless you speak japanese you will have one hell of a time ordering from Sanwa. Try either ultimarc.com for sticks, or excellentcom.net for sticks and buttons.

Again, it's identical to the one chris posted... I can't tell that they're really any of them. That little thick area on the sides doesn't seem to press in at all! HOWEVER, the third one is my select button, so that's very very helpful!

When I get home in another 8 hours, I will try it out.

Is it just me or are candy buttons a lot more logically designed? Much simpler and easier to figure out, not to mention smaller - do they feel much different then US arcade buttons?

I would say japanese cabinets tend to be more userfriendly, easier to access, more features (generally) and have better, bigger monitors and better joysticks/buttons IMHO. They're also easier to move around since most have wheels.

Some of my jap cabs have flat, wide faced, very easy to depress buttons. Quite reliable in the heat of battle when you need to just twitch by instinct to pull off a combo.

one last question...

Last question: Can I remove the actual unit that houses all these buttons and what not so I can take it somewhere to work on this, like the living room or what not? I see that the wires connect into a box, and then go back to the unit itself in the case.... can you disconnect those? I hate pulling and tugging on shit that I don't know anything about. But hey, a guy's gotta learn somehow.

Thanks all,
Spike

can you disconnect those? Yes..

Taking it out and into another room would be a great idea, and easier to work on..

Yup :)

You can also just buy a whole new CP:

It would be much cheaper to fix yourself though :)

Well, I did it. I replace the one joystick and the other. I swapped them. I like the feel the the 2P joystick just a wee bit better, but they both work great. Just wanted to do it for practice.

Now, I still can't get those damned buttons out. I guess I'll just have to order some and hope that when the time comes, I can do it... tried about three times now, but no luck.

Now if I can find the exact joystick, I'm set.... but I may never? Hmmm.

Can you take a pic of it? I am pretty good at finding Joysticks. If you want an exact replacement that it. Most likely it is a Sanwa, but there are 2 major kinds of Sanwas, the 5 prong molex connector kind and the microswithc kind.

Anyways a pick of it from above and below and I should be able to help.
