Encoder colour

OK Im testing my homebrew supergun with AD725 encoder.
MVS boards work fine, perfect infact with no noticable difference using s-vid or composite.

Different story with most jamma boards Ive plugged in, Im running PAL and alternate lines seem way out of phase, like hanover bars. Its real shitty colour. Sometimes none at all.

Question is how come the MVS boards work 100% but the straight jammas have this problem, from a control point of view they all work the same in any given cab ?

Maybe slightly different sync levels or waveform shape stuffing up the PAL delay line switching ?
I havent tried it running NTSC, no xtal at the moment.
Any ideas

It looks like ntsc 4.43 on a pal monitor. On some jamma boardsets there is no color at all.(Raiden2 has vertical roll also)
This only occurs on anything other than a MVS board?
MVS boards display perfect pal phasing on alternate lines through the encoder ?
The TV monitor is multi-system, auto detects system and refresh.
Ive tried other TVs

After some experimenting, noticed that the data sheet mentions >2 volts at the vertical sync input pin of the IC if composite sync is used, inputed into the h sync (which is the easy option for mvs/jamma). Varying this dc level has an effect but its not a fix.
Thinking of seperating the composite sync and feeding both vertical and horizontal sync inputs to the AD725 encoder.
Anyone with any sugestions ?

Finally sorted it out, I think (needs testing on more boards and TVs)
Used a LM 1881 sync seperator to feed vertical sync to the AD 725 encoder. The way it was set up was to have a composite sync going to what would otherwise be the h sync input and the v sync input pin tied down.
Anyway it seems to work OK now, has anyone else had these sort of problems with the AD encoders ?
btw there are some component value changes required from the LM1881 data sheets typical application circuit, anyone interested please PM.

Back when I made my AD725 encoder I got my Street Fighter 2 PCB to look perfect...however, my Mortal Kombat 2 looked all sorts of wrong. The colors looked as if I had the RGB lines mixed up. I never did figure it out(ended up getting a JROK). This was on NTSC equipment.

mk2 is a bit off anyways, it won't display right even with straight RGB on sony tvs.. the picture rolls. on noname tvs and rgb monitors the pic is great.

MK2 uses a 53.2Hz vertical refresh rate, so that's the issue. Not sure why it would mess up the color though.

Back to the drawing board. I spoke too soon.

Although there is a definate improvement the encoder colour is still unstable on most jamma boards (yet perfect on MVS)
MK2 I also find looks like the rgbs are switched around. Raiden2 still has vertical roll. 1943 bootleg is perfect where it had no colour previously. Exerion has very unstable horizontal lock.
All boards work well in a cab (without having to adjust vert/hor hold)

Questions
1) Is it a PAL issue, maybe running in ntsc would be more stable.
2) Does the Jrok or other encoders have similar problems with certain jamma boarsets.
3) How long before all my hair is pulled out. :help:

Hey todddy,

I don't think my emails got through?

I think I may have found the coil? Can you verify this for me? Also anyone who knows where to find S-video panel mounts (female plug) that'd be awesome!!!

anyways link for coil is as follows. Which one is the one I order? I'm still trying to make my RGB encoder ad725 chip.:

They all would do the job as long as the value is correct 68 uH

I would go for
#9210-68........ 68uH....Q 55....... $1.31
from the third supplier.

I havent received any mail from you recently, my server admin is doing all sorts of weird shit since the mydoom virus, maybe they were filtered for some reason? Try resending to parry@datec.com.pg
