I noticed I don't have an AC filter in my Red Cab..
It has a newer version power supply..that was put in before I got the cab..
The taller/thin power supply without a fan..

I'm getting a ripple on screen and a buzzing noise within the power supply..
Once in awhile this doesn't occur..

I'm not running the cab now, until I get the New original power supply I the mail..

But would no AC line filter cause a ripple and buzzing in the power supply..?

I doubt it, but you never know. Adding one in is easy though. You might also check that everything is grounded properly. A Virtua Racing monitor at work was getting a ghost image from the 2nd monitor because the 2nd monitor wasn't grounded properly.

No, its more likely to be a dry electro cap on the psu or maybe a dry solder joint if its intermittent as you have described.
Check the grounding as Reznor says.

You know today,I was looking at the ground wire connections and found out that the one ground wire going into the Black/Green(gr) White 3 wire molex connector was not all the way in..
Then when I messed with it and it broke off.

So I fixed that up..turned on the cab and it was working perfect..
(with a STV board installed)
No noise and no ripple,,
So I get all happy after the cab was on for awhile and turned it off.
I wanted to check the PS 5v voltage..
It was a bit high so I lowered it slightly..I turn the cab back on and now I'm getting a hiss from the speakers, the noise from the PS and a bad break up on screen(ripple)..
I brought up the voltage to different levels but it made no difference..

So I figure this PS is shot so I take it out and 99% apart..
I didn't look at the solder side..but I will take it apart again..
The insides look clean though..

Do you think that Ground wire being off could have ruined this PS..?

(note)

The PS has made the buzzing noise for the longest..I just thought it was like that because the cab worked perfectly..and thought I better not mess with it..

The tone of the buzz changes if I raise or lower the voltage.

If I set the voltage to 5.1V "with the MVS 4 slot mother board in the cab"..The ripple will be gone, but the buzzing still is heard..
You also can hear dips in the tone of the buzzing as the games cycle in the 4 slot..
It's when I put the STV's in that I can't get rid of the ripple on screen.
Tonight it worked clear when I put that ground back on..then occured again.
Once in awhile i won't hear any buzzing..usually when I have someone look at it.(damn it)(they think I'm nuts/hearing things)

If I put the STV's in the Tekken 3 they work perfectly..

The 4 slot is woking perfectly in the Candy Cab..

Thus making me think it's a bad power supply in the Big Red..

Just what does a AC line filter do..?
