Anyoen know if those old-school arcade joysticks (you know, the ones that looks like they had gumballs on top) are compatible with the upright Neo Geo MVS cabs? I think I've seen them on the sit-down candy cabs, but wasn't sure if that meant they were compatible with Neo Geo MVS up-right cabs.

Thanks,

Sweeeeeeeeet!

DO you know what colours they come in??

thanks!

Happ Controls only sells them with a red knob, but if you wish you can always change it with a different color knob at a later date (The knobs simply screw off)

That's a 4-Way joystick so it won't work too well with Neo games that require 8-Ways.

Now if you just want the ball top off of that then you're fine.

Oh crap! I didn't notice that that was a link to the 4-way.

This may be a bit off topic, but isn't it more of a regional thing than an "old school" thing as ball joysticks are the main type of arcade stick used in japan, while the grip sticks are the main type available in the US/Europe. Which on a side note is why it's almost impossible to get an arcade stick for any console with a grip stick as most 3rd party hardware is more or less rebranded junk from HK manufacturers.

The type of joystick you're referring to is like this:

Sanwa J-Stick

I recently replaced my US 'bat style' stick in my custom controller for one odf the Sanwa J-Sticks.

These have the same screwhole layout as the US style ones but are much shorter.

If your control panel is 1/2" wood then it will fit fine with a bottom mounting. Any thicker and it'll be too small without doing some routing and new hole drilling to enable you to top mount it.
