Could we have a sticky in News and Rumours or the War Room or something where mods post who they have banned and why?

Wasabi's thread about his moddingness seems to have uncovered a fair bit of confusion about the whos and whys of banned members. It would also help other people not replicate those same mistakes. Perhaps it could be set so only mods can post in it or something.

I know some people, like EsKo are still none the wiser about why they were banned or who did it, that can't be right.

I can see it now:

Makismo - Rampant trolling.

GBITCH - Racist remarks.

Stifu - Annoyed Wasabi.

Maybe we should have a forum grudge match...GBITCH vs. SAMHAIN...the winner gets a one week pass in the war room.

EsKo = Anak = Tonk's friend = let Tonk use his account

from what I understand.

Well, you're definitely wrong on why someone banned GBITCH.

I think this is a stupid idea.

If a person can't figure out what it takes to get banned, that's their problem.

As in normal law: Ignorance of the law is no excuse.

If we lay down examples people will think they are the only examples and try and weasel around.

No dice.

Bannings are on an ad hoc basis

Wasn't Dark Lord Dragon the one that claimed to have been in New York City during 9/11, lost his boss in the tower collapse, etc.? He was also making up BS stories about what was going on there and trying to milk the audience for sympathy and who knows what else, and it turned out he was actually posting from another country.

Might have been someone else, I have banned so many dipshits I lose track of them.

True, but people should know what crime they have been charged with. Maybe have a sticky "hall of shame" or "the stocks" mod-post-only everyone-readable board which gives the name of the offender and the nature/extent of his or her crime?

I'm not surprised.

I don't even remember who GBITCH was, I just knew he was banned, so I made something up to get the proper setup for the Stifu/Wasabi joke.

If we are to use US law as an example though, one is allowed to know what he did. Ignorance does not save him, nonetheless, but he still gets a reason.

Just an alternate angle. I do understand that listing each and every ban could get tiring, when I consider events like TonK's entrance onto this forum (how many usernames did he go through?)

If this was a democracy, then that would be true.

But its not.

I have publicly stated that my view is the same many times. We are not a democracy, but if one is to point to a US statute it should be properly represented.

He isn't pointing to a US statute.

Thats the way it is everywhere.

If I go over to Russia and doing something stoopid, I can't vary well claim ignorance of the law, can I?

That is a statute of US law, but it is misleading in that the topic does not say "unban anyone who is unaware of why they were banned"

Still, I understand entirely how impossible the actual task is. I once had to ban a guy 22 times form a forum in one half hour (while on dial up) beofre I managed to completely lock him out. Listing each and every nick would be too arduous.

Honestly, with some trolls it's even more daunting to try and figure out what makes them tick. Usually it boils down to some personality disorder -the internet makes it much easier to act like your real personae.

The guy on my forum had attempted hacking the board (except he only knew how to click random links and enter false usernames to do it, which obviously didn't work), claimed he was leaving to upset people and made a second account to do post, accused female moderators of having "cyber boffed" their way to their position (this one was not so much banning material as absolutely hilarious and outrageous, and yes he meant it seriously!), flamed people solely for not getting to be a mod (and all over the forum), and spammed like no one I have seen before or since (We're talking 200 posts/day here, on a smaller forum than ng.com).

I agree but why don't email that banned members that he/she is banned and the reason(s), isn't it better? At least I will know why you mods don't want me. Spam? Or, I'm more handsome?

Bobak was using the US law as an example, so Jethrek is saying if we do that then we should in fact be given a reason. Otherwise the law isn't a good comparison....

No he wasn't. Nowhere did he specify US law.

His statement is valid in most every country on this planet.

Now, if he has used "Innocent until proven guilty", then yeah, thats mostly US specific.

I don't think there is a single city/country on this planet where you can claim ignorance of the law and walk away scott free.

However, in most countries, you are allowed to know what you were charged with though, which is what this thread calls for. It does not call for them all to be unbanned.
