help!!!!!!! Aes sound problems?

i jsut got a Usa aes, low serial # in good condition

only flaw is that it is missing one of the screws in the bottom.

when i take carts out and put others in, sometimes the sound goes off and i have to give it a good pat.

also, when i turn it on, the whole screen has this green chekerboard thing for like .5 sec, is this normal??
