oh man thats great info but i meant the aes system

Then you've got solder, and it is quite complicated unless you are quite good at soldering. If you are not, I suggest having somebody else doing that for you.

On an AES it is dead easy, preparation is the key.

First there is one leg from the main chip that has to be 'broken' using a pair of fine snips, and then pulled up away so it doesnt make contact.

Then, dab a bit of soldering flux onto every leg of the BIOS chip and then do the same to every leg on the DEBUG BIOS.

Then switch on your soldering iron and 'tin' every leg(for those thta don't know, tinning is the application of a small amount of solder. The flux is a chemical lceaner that helps the solder stick to the metal legs)

Carefully locate the DEBUG over the original BIOS.Then its just a matter of pressing the soldering iron onto each leg in turn.As each leg arleady has a small application of solder the heat just melts it on each leg without you having to worry about poking more solder in and getting too much applied that can make unwanted connections between the chips legs.

Then its just a matter of fitting the resistor and a short piece of wire to the approprate connections(rememebr to flux and tin first)

When all is done go around and check that all solder connections are tight and that there is no unwanted solder anywhere.

Put the lid back on your machine and fire it up.

Should take about half an hour for a first timer.

Sorry, I know this may look very easy to experienced people (or people with very good manual skills), but I bet around 99% of regular people would not dare to do that, or mess up something if they do...

Personally, I "learnt" to solder due to the need to make some mods in my videogame stuff, but I suck at it. I wouldn't attempt to solder on a chip.

If i remember, there is a version of the AES with socketed bios. if you are lucky owner of such, then it s as easy as MVS socket-versions :)

the only way is to open it, locate the bios, if it s plugged in a socket and not soldered directly on the board then you are a lucky one :)

It's worth the money to have it done by Jeff Kurtz or Kenny Boy, unless you've got decent soldering skills and general familiarity with electronics.

I've only fitted 2 BIOS chips before. The first one took me an hour as it was the first task of its kind I had done and I wanted to get it right.
The second one took less than half an hour to fit and get running.

Basic soldering is easy. You just have to make sure that all surafces are clean with no grease or dirt on them.Use a flux where you can(some solders have a core of flux but that isnt generally enough to do the job).
One thing is to buy a decent soldering iron.Over here you can buy them from as little as £3 but these are useless as they aren't made for finesse.Great big bulky things that are made in china with a tip like a fence post.Avoid crap like that.
You want to be spending about £15 at least on a decent brand iron, preferably one with interchangable tips. And also a lower wattage if you can.The standard el-cheapo bulk monsters are usually about 50watts which is fine if you want to recut treads in tractor tyres. For doing pcb work you only need one about 25w or preferably 15w.
