What's the difference between "controller port pinouts" and "joystick pinouts"?

wtf?
if you know they are reversed, why don't you just solder the wires on the exact opposite way (which will of course give you a proper wiring)?
why would you need a seperate pinout for that?

I guess it also depends on if you look at the solder or parts side, but...

Both the port and the Stick pluggs are numbered the same.... If you have a DB 15 male, the numbers on it run to the corresponding ends on the female.....

Are you referring to flat cables like the ones used in a computer, where the 15 wires appear one next to the following?

In that case, starting from the pink wire, the pin that corresponds to each wire is:

1
9
2
10
3
11
4
12
5
13
6
14
7
15
8

I would suggest you to make some continuity tests with a multimeter to make sure...
